The Issue

I remember the heart-wrenching reality of being homeless as a child. Every night was an uncertain ordeal, a fight for a safe place to sleep until I was about 10 or 11 when my family finally found a home. This struggle is unforgotten and shared by many others across the United States. We see an imbalance of priority. While we strive to be a nation that welcomes all, our own citizens still sleep on the streets every night. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, on a given night in January 2020, 580,466 people were homeless in America. Any country's first responsibility should be to its own citizens, and we currently fail at this solemn duty. I call upon the government to urgently redirect its attention and resources towards addressing homelessness effectively within the American citizen community before we open our doors wider for immigration. Together, we can ensure no more children go through what I went through. Sign the petition if you agree.
