Help LA Utility Watchdog & AAE put the PUBLIC back into the LPSC!
The Issue
Ever wonder why our power bill is so high? 100% of storm recovery costs have been passed on to the public due to the Securitization Act of 2005, resulting in high energy bills. Entergy is currently requesting another $1.5 billion in rate increases for customers in addition to $3.2 billion that was already approved last year, for a total of $4.7 billion. State law allows Entergy and other utilities to absorb some of these costs, but they have refused to do so, demanding that those costs fall to ratepayers.
Who can hold utilities like Entergy accountable? YOU and the Louisiana Public Service Commision. Did you know that one state agency made up of only five elected officials has the final say on how much you pay for your utility bill? Did you know that this agency, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, has “plenary” power – meaning that there is no public, private, or governmental body on the state level that it answers to & there are, essentially, no checks & balances on its power?
It doesn’t have to be this way – for example, the New Orleans City Council allows a reasonable opportunity for public comment before voting on agenda items. The LPSC needs to allow for more transparency and public input over much of our money is given to for-profit utilities.– If you agree, sign this petition to show the Louisiana Public Service Commission you are NOT OKAY with allowing Entergy to shift billions of dollars in costs to ratepayers and you DEMAND more transparency and accountability at the LPSC!
