Demand for Transparent Criminal Investigation into the hospital death of Sherri French RN

Demand for Transparent Criminal Investigation into the hospital death of Sherri French RN
The Issue
Sherri French was a nurse who suffered many injuries surrounding her healthcare in Indiana. She was first misdiagnosed in 2017, and again in 2018. On 12/29/21. She was admitted to Ascension St Vincent for Covid. 12/31/21 she was physically assaulted by a respiratory therapist assigned to her care. This was reported to administration and IMPD but was ignored. Immediately following reporting, she began to experience increased retaliation. The abuse she endured cannot be quantified leading up to and including her decline following an injury she acquired from a respiratory therapist. She’s admitted to the ICU on 1/12/22, and dies on 1/21/22. The events leading to and including the day of her death, involved every member on her care team which includes, individuals who acted independently, as accessories, accomplices (including those who observed misconduct without intervening or reporting).
On 1/21/22 physicians and staff intentionally ignored Code Blue protocols specifically not initiating a "Cold Blue” announcement only for Sherri this day. Instead, staff members on the floor gathered outside her room to watch and witness the criminal activity including declaring of “no pulse” in the presence of an obvious blood pressure. None of these members reported this or intervened. This requires immediate attention because without it, more patients will die at the hands of abusive healthcare members. Her death requires criminal accountability for all involved in order to ensure that this never happens again.
We the family are calling upon Prosecutor Ryan Mears and Mayor Joe Hogsett to conduct a full and transparent criminal investigation into her death, including all significant events leading to and surrounding her death. We have faith and confidence that this team will be able to provide our family with the justice and accountability for such said actions. We are hopeful that this team “humanizes” this case. She served as an excellent nurse and advocate for this community for many years. She didn’t deserve to die this way. More patients will be harmed or die without the accountability from Ascension St Vincent, their staff, and doctors. As a level 1 Trauma Center this is unacceptable.
