Johnston, RI Citizens AGAINST Industrial Solar in Residential Zones

The Issue

April 2, 2024    6:00pm     Johnston Senior Center

The Planning Board is set to vote on a 1-year extension of five Master Plan approvals for solar manufacturing facilities Winsor I, Winsor II, Winsor III, Harrilla I, and Elmgrove II. These projects encompassing over 324 acres and over 111,000 panels were denied by the Zoning Board. If the Planning Board approves, the developer has another year to return, again, to the Zoning Board. Join us at the meeting to keep pressure on the town to stop these projects in residential areas of our town!

One more time! This meeting we expect some closing remarks from the lawyers and a vote from the Zoning Board. Keep the pressure on the board by joining us and experience the final vote in person.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mark your calendars!

A new solar project with battery storage is on the Zoning Board Agenda. Commercial solar should not be introduced into residentially zoned land.

You can find the details as well as information about solar and battery storage HERE.

Brief History

On April 28, 2022, after an 8 hour Zoning Board Meeting five commercial solar projects were denied their special use permits. The developer has appealed the denials of all five projects.

The fight is not over.
