The Issue

Update | August 6th, 2026

When many of you first signed this petition, you stood with us because you believed that every human life has value and that a prison sentence should never become a medical death sentence.

Today, we need your voice more than ever.

Krystal Clark remains in the custody of the Michigan Department of Corrections while continuing to battle serious medical issues. Although she was transferred from Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility to Duane Waters Health Center, the transfer has not resolved the concerns that led to our call for action. According to Krystal and her legal team, she continues to report significant health problems while awaiting the specialized medical care that outside physicians have recommended.

Her case is currently before the federal court, where emergency motions have highlighted the urgency of her medical condition and the need for meaningful intervention.

But this movement has become about more than one woman.

In recent months, multiple people have died while in MDOC custody. Families, advocates, attorneys, legislators, and healthcare professionals continue to raise serious concerns about prison healthcare, environmental safety, transparency, and accountability throughout Michigan's correctional system.

This is not about politics.

This is about humanity.

It is about whether we, as a society, believe that every person—regardless of their incarceration status—is entitled to basic medical care, dignity, and the chance to survive.

What You Can Do Today
Please continue sharing this petition with your family, friends, faith communities, and social networks.

Contact Governor Gretchen Whitmer, your state legislators, and the Michigan Department of Corrections. Ask them what they are doing to ensure constitutionally adequate medical care, independent oversight, and transparency within Michigan's prisons.

Your voice matters.

Public awareness has helped bring national attention to Krystal's case, legislative oversight to Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility, and increased accountability from state officials. But our work is not finished.

We cannot allow public attention to fade while lives remain at risk.

Together, we can continue pushing for justice—not only for Krystal Clark, but for every person whose life depends on a correctional system that has a legal and moral obligation to provide safe conditions and adequate medical care.

A prison sentence should never become a medical death sentence.

Lead with LOVE. Demand accountability. Protect human dignity. Share this petition today.

Krystal's latest Federal Court Ruling 6-24

Krystal Clark, a courageous individual incarcerated within the Michigan Department of Corrections, is battling a severe black mold infection. Despite her repeated requests for medical attention, her plight has been consistently ignored by the medical staff, causing her ongoing suffering and endangerment. Her resilience against retaliations speaks volumes about the dire conditions faced by detained citizens under the neglectful watch of the department's leadership.

The current state of healthcare in Michigan's prisons is deplorable. Many detainees are forced to endure poor living conditions that contribute to widespread health issues. Black mold, a well-documented cause of respiratory problems and other serious health concerns, festers in these facilities without proper remediation. This persistent health hazard, among other neglectful conditions, has been consistently overlooked by both Heidi Washington, Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections, and Kyle Kaminski, who have alarmingly failed to act responsibly.

Their apparent disregard raises a crucial question: why should they remain in positions of authority when they clearly fail to protect those they are meant to supervise? Their leadership has been marred by negligence, and they have ignored the cries for help from multiple imprisoned individuals, putting countless lives at risk.

We are calling for immediate action—Heidi Washington and Kyle Kaminski must be held accountable. They need to be removed from their positions and investigated for their lack of responsibility and the severe medical negligence during their tenure. Such drastic oversight needs to be swiftly rectified to prevent further harm to Michigan's detained citizens.

Stand with us to demand justice for Krystal Clark and all those suffering under these conditions. Let's ensure that those responsible are thoroughly investigated and replaced with competent and compassionate leaders who will prioritize the health and safety of their wards.

Sign this petition to support the call for accountability and a just resolution for the wronged individuals under the care of the Michigan Department of Corrections.
