Facebook has a feature where people can click and forward information to all their contacts in an effortless moment.  Alternative-facts, lies, fake cures, political divisiveness, etc, all instantly shared in memes, videos, etc. spreading insanely quickly.  Forwarding seems to make people feel powerful, and that they are helping. They defend spreading lies with their good intentions.

Now more than ever, we must check facts before sharing information. Remember:
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Once sent out into the world this information can not be recalled. Just as the original sender failed to check facts, so will their friends, and their friends, and so on indefinitely.

At the very least, intrusive messages with the same holiday greetings and flashy graphics pop up multiple times on our screen while we are trying to work.  At worst, we are sharing divisiveness and lies that divide families, communities, communication, and decency.  Politically divisive lies, aka alternative facts, threaten democracy. At the time I am writing this, in a global pandemic, these fake preventions and fake cures threaten actual lives.

Please join me in petitioning Facebook to remove this forwarding feature in Facebook messenger.
