We need to stop building these uninspired mixed use developments that do nothing but clutter our neighborhoods with mundane commercial spaces. As a resident of Northeast Philadelphia, I see vacant buildings and envision the potential for something much more vibrant and beneficial for our community. Franklin Mall, currently a shell of its former self, sits as a vacant concrete expanse with unused potential. Instead of pushing another commercial venture down our throats, why not think outside the box and provide a space that both residents and tourists can enjoy?

Northeast Philadelphia deserves an attraction that brings joy to families, creates economic opportunities, and revitalizes our surroundings. An amusement park would not only serve as a source of entertainment but also as a boost to the local economy, providing jobs and attracting visitors from across the region. Imagine a dynamic, colorful landscape where laughter echoes, families bond, and memories are created.

Furthermore, amusement parks have been shown to significantly contribute to local economies. According to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, the U.S. amusements industry contributes approximately $55.4 billion in economic impact, supporting over 1.3 million jobs. Transforming Franklin Mall into an amusement park could tap into this potential, turning what is currently wasteland into a hub of fun and economic vitality.

We are not asking for the impossible. Several cities have successfully redeveloped underutilized spaces into thriving amusement parks. With careful planning, collaboration with urban developers, and community input, we can create a public space that is both profitable and pleasurable.
