The Issue

As active members of the Friends of Emerson Park, we work tirelessly to promote and support recreation, development, preservation, and continual improvements to our beloved Emerson Park, located in Auburn, New York. Our partnership with Cayuga County Parks and Trails, accompanied by the unwavering support of our community, fuels our vision of transforming Emerson Park into the County’s prime destination.

An important part of this vision is building an inclusive destination playground that caters to children and adults of all ages. The playground is set to occupy one quarter of Deauville Island, replacing the existing play structure and is optimized for recreational activities that foster community engagement, well-being, and inclusivity. According to the National Recreation and Park Association, playgrounds serve as crucial public spaces that significantly contribute to a community's health, wellness, and social bonding.

We want to ensure that Emerson Park continues to thrive as a community hub after years of disuse. We aim to make the park an emblem of our community’s needs, a symbol of our commitment to inclusivity, and a place where memories are made and relationships strengthened. To make this happen, we need your support.

Let's join forces to make the Destination Playground a reality. Enhanced by the greenspace and watershed that surround it, this project will provide a place where all our residents, irrespective of their age, ability and interests, feel welcomed and entertained. Please sign this petition and show your support for the construction of an inclusive destination playground at Emerson Park on Deauville Island.
