An Eco-friendly Dual-Use Heat Sleeve That Unfolds Into A Napkin Is A Great Idea

The Issue

About Me:

My name is Jared Anthony-Curtis, but you can call me Jac. When my coffee carts switched from foam cups to double-sided paper cups, I thought I was making a positive change that would help the planet. However, I soon realized that after banning foam cups, we had merely replaced them with something far worse: double-walled cups.

Double-walled cups, like those now used at Dunkin' and McDonald's, have an extra layer of paper glued on for heat protection. Despite being made of paper, the plastic lining and glue make them nearly impossible to recycle. With 50 billion cups ending up in landfills each year, these cups are now creating almost twice the amount of unnecessary paper waste, especially since 50% of hot drinks don't even require a protective heat sleeve! Both a hot Chai Tea and a Chai Tea Latte will come with a built-in paper sleeve for heat protection even though the Chai Latte doesn't require one.

There Is A Better Solution

Signing this petition will help me tell major corporations to replace double-walled cups with my 2-in-1 heat sleeve that unfolds into a napkin from www.CupCucoon.com. This ecofriendly solution uses fewer resources to manufacture, is multifunctional, replaces a napkin, and generates less waste. This seems like a no-brainer, but until major corporations are forced to change, they will continue wasting paper. Help raise awareness for this practical and viable eco-friendly alternative by signing my petition today!

The Facts:

  • While double-walled cups seem like an eco-friendly choice, they are nearly impossible to recycle or compost.
  • With 50 billion paper cups disposed of each year, this results in twice as much landfill waste compared to single-walled cups.
  • Only 50% of hot beverages require an additional layer of paper for heat protection.
  • Even though they claim to be recyclable or compostable, only 2% of disposable coffee cups are actually recycled.

Why Do We Need A Petition?

Manufacturing companies profit immensely from selling double-walled cups, leaving them with little incentive to switch to more sustainable alternatives. Introducing a 2-in-1 napkin sleeve would challenge these profitable double-walled cups and potentially reduce their earnings. To drive change, we must demand that coffee providers replace double-walled cups with a 2-in-1 napkin sleeve with this petition.

What Exactly Are Double-Walled Cups?

Double-walled cups are single-walled paper cups with a glued-on additional layer of exterior paperboard for heat protection. However, since only 50% of drinks are actually hot enough to require this extra layer of heat protection, this leads to significant and unnecessary single-use paper waste in our landfills.

This extra layer of paper is creating a mountain of unnecessary paper waste!

There’s no need for 50 billion cups to have an extra layer of paper!

Single-Walled Cups: Less paper, less landfill waste.

Single-walled cups are better for the environment because they don't send a second layer of paper to landfills.

Can't Paper Cups Be Recycled/Composted?

While many people think paper coffee cups are good for the environment due to greenwash marketing, most coffee cups are not recyclable/compostable because of the polyethylene plastic lining inside. Even in municipalities that can recycle/compost coffee cups, 98% of these cups end up in landfills due to consumer confusion, lack of education, improper disposal/signage, and unavailable treatment facilities. Recycling/composting paper cups may not even be better for the environment due to the labor and resource-intensive process of collecting, sorting, transporting, and separating the plastic lining and additional layer of paperboard for processing. The better alternative is to reduce our waste by forcing companies to use single-walled cups.

There Is A Better Way: Single-Walled Cups and A 2-in-1 Napkin Sleeve

We can immediately reduce 50% of single-use paper waste generated from coffee cups by banning double-walled cups and replacing them with single-walled cups and a napkin sleeve.

This new innovation that can replace double-walled cups is better for the environment in many ways:

  1. Works with multiple size hot and iced single-walled disposable cups and provides superior thermal protection.
  2. Is a multi-use product that acts as both a heat sleeve and a napkin, reducing waste.
  3. Eco-friendly material that uses fewer resources, biodegrades faster, and creates less waste than paperboard alternatives.

And It Unfolds Into A Napkin!

By signing this petition you can start holding businesses accountable and encourage them to adopt more sustainable practices. Tell your favorite cafe and legislators that it's time to stop wasting paper and harming the environment by banning double-walled cups and switching to single-walled cups and a napkin sleeve.
