Petition for the Nationwide Implementation of Clare's Law in Australia

To Whom It May Concern,

Domestic violence is not just a statistic; it's a stark reality that haunts the lives of countless individuals and families across Australia. In the face of this ongoing crisis, we cannot remain silent or complacent.

Every day, behind closed doors, lives are shattered, dreams are crushed, and futures are stolen. Domestic violence robs people of their dignity, their autonomy, and their sense of security.

It inflicts wounds that may never fully heal and leaves scars that linger for a lifetime. Now, more than ever, we must act. We cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering that plagues our communities. We cannot accept a reality where fear and violence hold sway over the lives of our fellow Australians. We must stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and say, "Enough is enough."

Why Clare's Law Matters:
Clare's Law, named after Clare Wood, who tragically lost her life to domestic violence, offers a ray of hope in the darkness. It empowers individuals to break free from the chains of abuse by providing access to vital police information about potential perpetrators. By arming people with knowledge, offer them a lifeline — a chance to reclaim their autonomy, dignity, and safety.

What is Clare’s Law?

Clare’s Law, officially known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS), is a police-run initiative that started in Great Britain that allows individuals to request information about a romantic partner’s history of abusive or violent behaviour. This law aims to protect individuals from potential harm by enabling them to make informed decisions about their relationships.

Disturbing Statistics:
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), one in six women have been subjected to physical or sexual violence by a current or former partner since the age of 15. This stark statistic highlights the urgent need for action.

Our Call to Action:

We urge our leaders and policymakers to listen to the voices of survivors, advocates, and concerned Australians. We call upon you to take decisive action to address the issue of domestic violence in our society. Specifically, we petition for the implementation of Clare's Law across all states and territories of Australia.

Signers of the petition declare their unwavering support for the implementation of Clare's Law. We stand in solidarity with survivors, allies, and advocates in the stand against domestic violence. Together, we can create a safer, more compassionate Australia for everyone.

We, the undersigned, urge our political leaders to recognise the severity of this issue and take immediate action to pass Clare's Law nationwide.

Commit to creating a compassionate and safe Australia where every individual is secure from harm. Sign the petition today and please pass it on! Together, we make a difference!
