The Issue

Louisville is becomming known as an arts destination, but Black creatives are largely left out of the converstion. As we contonue to fight for DEI and we are now at a pivotal moment. Despite the significant contributions of Black artists like Mama Yaa Asantewa, Elmer Lucille Allen, William Duffy, Harlina Trumbo, Thomas English, and many more, there is still no independent cultural arts HQ that highlights and nurtures Black artistic expression while building Black economic autonomy.

The creation of such a district requires public and private support. We call upon local government, businesses, philanthropists, and community leaders to invest in this initiative. By allocating funds, providing space, and offering structural support, we can lay the groundwork for a thriving Black arts district.

Sign this petition to call for the establishment and funding of a Black-run arts district in Louisville. Here's what that looks like:

  1. a Black owned gallery & education center
  2. Funding for Black creativity
  3. Tax incentives for the district
