As an individual deeply passionate about marine life and the natural beauty of Sydney Harbour, I am calling for the establishment of a Wyargine Aquatic Reserve. The proposed area includes waters around Edwards Beach, Chinaman's Beach, Wyargine Point and Balmoral.

These waters are home to a variety of marine life. Seagrass meadows, seaweed, rocky reefs and sandy habitats provide food and shelter for fish, rays, turtles, octopus, dolphins, seahorses and many other creatures. This marine life is easy to overlook from the shore, but it is a vital part of the Harbour and something worth protecting before more of it is lost.

Establishing an Aquatic Reserve, similar to the no-take and no-anchor zone at Manly's Cabbage Tree Bay, would give marine life a safe place to live, feed and breed. 

This part of Sydney Harbour is special because of its natural beauty and the life within it. We have already seen how much has been lost. In 1980, Edwards Bay and much of Chinaman's Beach were covered in seagrass. Protecting these waters would give these ecosystems an opportunity to recover and remain healthy and full of life for generations to come.

An Aquatic Reserve would also support research, recreation and education, while allowing people to continue enjoying these waters through swimming, snorkelling and diving.

I urge you to join me in supporting the establishment of a Wyargine Aquatic Reserve in Middle Harbour. Wyargine Aquatic Friends Inc has been established as a charity with the purpose of helping make this reserve a reality.
