A Call for Truth, Closure, and Compassion
We, the family of Eric Omeasoo, a 13-year-old Indigenous youth whose life was tragically taken at the MacEwan LRT Station on February 5, 2025, are formally requesting a private, unedited viewing of the surveillance footage that captured the final moments of Eric’s life.

This is not a demand for public release. It is a plea for dignity. For understanding. For the right to see, with our own eyes, what happened to our child.

Why We’re Asking
- The investigation into Eric’s death is closed.
- There is no active publication ban on the footage that would restrict private viewing by family members/guardian.
- We are not seeking to interfere with legal matters or sensationalize Eric’s death.
- We are not above or beyond accountability — we simply seek clarification and truth from those who have decided his death required no charges, no trial.

Why This Matters Deeply
Throughout these past months, witness and bystander accounts of what occurred that night have conflicted with information shared by authorities. These inconsistencies have compounded our grief, leaving our family suspended in confusion — mourning a child we still don’t fully understand how we lost.

The only path toward healing is one lit by truth.

Our Right as Eric’s Family
Eric was not just a name in a file. He was our son, our grandson, our nephew, our brother, our cousin, our friend. He was a kind, loving child with his whole life ahead of him. As his family, we carry the unbearable weight of losing him — and we deserve to understand the full truth of how his final moments unfolded.

This footage is not just evidence — it is the last record of his life. We have a moral and human right to view it.

A designated lawyer Must Be Included

We also request that a designated lawyer be able to view it with the family to help us understand the legalities and process of what we see.

We Ask That EPS and the Crown:
1. Allow a private, family-only viewing, including a designated lawyer, of the unedited Edmonton Transit footage that captured the events of February 5, 2025.
2. Acknowledge the contradictions between official reports and bystander accounts, and how these inconsistencies affect trust and healing.
3. Offer transparency into how the decision not to pursue charges was reached.

🧡 Stand With Us
This petition is a call for dignity, transparency, and truth. It is a plea for recognition that families deserve to be treated with respect in the aftermath of tragedy.

We are seeking a basic human right: to witness the final moments of our loved one’s life and to understand how a decision was made that left us without answers. This is about honoring Eric’s life and ensuring that systems of justice remain accountable to the people they serve.

Stand with our family. Stand for truth over silence, for healing over harm, and for the right of every family to walk through grief with clarity and respect.
