The Issue

I write this petition as a resident of Montgomery County, Maryland, a survivor, a mother, and an advocate for the rights and safety of our most vulnerable citizens. As someone that has personally experienced displacement throughout my childhood, I stand firmly against the growing safety risks we face in our area, specifically in homeless shelters, our goal is to provide support to the shelter, help assist  homeless men and women, we are not just a marginal group of our society, but a significant part of the Montgomery County community. Many of us reside, work, and contribute to the growth of the County despite the hurdles that homelessness brings. It is time that our concerns are heard and addressed.

We urgently need to create a healthier and safer environment by tackling issues residents face within these shelters. Ensuring the well-being of our men, women, and families must be prioritized. It is of utmost importance that shelter facilitators receive sufficient education and training so that the mental health and overall welfare of shelter inhabitants are protected.

This is a call for the right to live in dignity and security. On behalf of the existing and upcoming advocates, I urge Montgomery County officials to review and rectify the conditions in places like shelters. Between the housed and unhoused; it's time to search for answers and better solutions.
