UN Member States recognized “that persons, as they age, should enjoy a life of fulfillment, health, security and active participation in the economic, social, cultural and political life of their societies”. And they are determined “to enhance the recognition of the dignity of older persons and to eliminate all forms of neglect, abuse and violence” by committed approximately 8 years ago “to eliminating all forms of discrimination, including age discrimination”

Despite the announcement of commitment, in many parts of the world, the rights of older persons are being violated daily and in many instances, with impunity. Older persons often face age discrimination at a workplace and inequality in in health care and housing. In social and public environments, they may experience a lack of recognition and respect. They may be deprived of full inclusion and participation in social, economic, cultural, civil and political affairs. Tragically and disturbingly, in many countries, incidences of neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation against older persons are not at all rare or isolated events.

Now is an opportunity to stimulate discussion and emancipate mind on promoting the rights of older persons and strengthen partnerships aimed at securing their full participation in communities and societies. Nations, states and the global community can redouble efforts and supports to realize the rights of older persons, and make the dream of a society for all ages a reality.

Please Endorse and Champion The UN Convention on the Rights of the Older Persons

Dear President of the United States, The U.S. Senate, and The U.S. House of Representatives

This petition is to urge the US to endorse, support and champion the proposed UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons. And to facilitate and encourage partnerships of global populations, communities and organizations for recognition, empowerment and advancement of older persons to remain independent, interactive, productive, healthy, happy, financially secure, and mainstream to the 1991 UN Principles for Older Persons: Independence, Participation, Care, Self fulfillment, Dignity and toward promoting a positive image of ageing.

As the population of this country is steadily increased and the elder population would sharply rise, there are urgent aging communities and issues that must be solved or addressed. Since the rights of older persons can be considered as a subset of the universal human rights, advancing older person rights would further advance the UN Declaration on Universal Human Rights and strengthen, elevate and beautify the fabrics of societies and essence of humanity. Older persons have long face discrimination, neglect, isolation, mistreatment, disrespect and abuse, violence and exploitation are not at all rare or isolated events. Communities or societies that are mindful and respectful of older persons would set good, decent and humane examples across generation or the age. Now is the opportunity to resolutely promote, solve and advance the rights of older persons to further eliminate discrimination, inequality and injustice in societies.

We hereby urge this nation to endorse, promote and champion the UN Convention of the Rights of Older Persons to collectively prevent or solve social issues and sufferings. And to set good examples, goodwill and leadership to the global community to further advance UN Universal Human Rights and Dignity, UN Framework on Global Responsibility to Protect, the common good, global community well being and the essence of being and humanity.
