The Ranch Quarry proposes clearing and mining 70 acres, done in 3 phases from 2025 thru 2045. This proposes 25 trucks in-and-out per day, with exposure to 50 trips per day on our local roads, 6 days per week.
Issues are traffic, road deterioration, noise, dust, diesel fumes, fish & wildlife, water table and wells, wetlands & watershed pollution, quality of life and more.
Relevant documents posted by the county do not honestly and adequately address the environmental issues and the impact that this size project will have on our community. The buyout of Cowden Gravel and Ready Mix, by Aggregate Industries (AI PNW Inc.) and their parent international conglomerate LafargeHolcim, raise serious issues. They have seriouslyquestionable environmental and ethical track records which we do not want to see impact our community, and the quiet rural lifestyle we live and enjoy. THIS A PETITION TO PUT END TO GREYHOUND RACING IN WHOLE STATE OF FLORIDA!!!!
EVERY YEAR THOUSANDS OF YOUNG AND HEALTHY GREYHOUNDS DOGS ARE KILLED MERELY BECAUSE THEY LACK WINNING POTENTIAL WERE INJURED WHILE RACING OR NO LONGER COMPETITIVE. WHILE RACING SHARPY IN RECENT YEARS AS PEOPLE HAVE BECOME AWARE OF THE HORRORS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SPORT, THERE ARE STILL MORE THAN 20 TRACKS OPERATING IN THE UNITED STATES.
RACING GREYHOUNDS ROUTINELY EXPERIENCE TERRIBLE INJURIES ON THE TRACK, SUCH AS BROKEN LEGS, CARDIAC ARREST , SPINAL CORD PARALYSIS AND BROKEN NECK .
THEY OFF THE TRACK AS WELL: DOGS CAUGHT UP IN THIS INDUSTRY SPEND OF THEIR LIVES STACKED IN WAREHOUSE-STYLE KENNELS FOR 20 OR MORE HOURS A DAY OR KEPT OUTDOORS IN DIRT PEN WITH MINIMAL SHELTERS.
MOST ENCLOSURES ARE NOT HEATED OR AIR CONDITIONED MANY DOGS SUFFER FROM FLEAS,TICKS,AND INTERNAL PARASITES AND ARE NOT PROVIDED BASIC VETERINARY CARE,HUMAN AFFECTION OR ADEQUATE SUSTENTANCE.
while greyhounds may live 13 or more years , they are usually 18 months to 5 years old when they retired from racing because they are deemed unfit to race after an injury or no longer fast enough to be profiftable.
while some of these dogs are sent to rescue groups, others are simply killed or returned to breeding facilties to serve as breeding stock.
while this is enough for most states turn their back on ugly practice unfortunately greyhound racing tracks still operate in seven states : ALABAMA, ARIZONA, ARKANSAS, FLORIDA,IOWA,TEXAS, AND WEST VIRGINIA. MORE THAN HALF OF ALL ACTIVE AMERICAN TRACKS ARE IN FLORIDA.
GREYHOUND RACING ATTENDANCE IS DEWINDING NATIONWIDE AS STATES PASS LAWS ENDING OR PHASING OUT THE SPORT AND THE PUBLIC CHOOSES NOT PARTICPATE IN THIS CRUEL ENTERPRISE.
PART OF THE DECLINE OF GREYHOUND RACING CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DRAMATIC LOSS IN PROFITS-GAMING FACILITIES ARE LOSING MONEY ON THESE RACES AND STATE GROVERMENT OFTEN WINDING UP HAVING TO SPEND MORE TO REGULATE THE SPORT REVENUE.
OVER THE PAST DECADE, GAMBLING ON DOG RACING AND GREYHOUND BREEDING HAS DECLINED BY 66% AND 57% REPECTIVELY.
IN FEBUARARY 2015, GREYHOUND ADVACACY GROUP GREY 2 K USA AND ASPCA RELEASED THE FIRST -EVER NATIONAL REPORT ON GREYHOUND RACING INJURIES IN THE UNITED STATES CHRONICLING THE THOUSANDS OF GREYHOUND RACING INJURIES AND HUNDREDS OF GREYHOUNDS DEATHS IN THE SEVEN STATES WHERE TRACKS STILL OPERATE.
THE REPORT TITILED HIGH STAKES WAS MAILED TO STATE LAWMAKERS OPINION LEADERS URGE THEM TO BRING AN END TO THIS INHERERNTY CRUEL SPORT SOME KEY FINDINGS FROM 2008-2015 INCLUDED: 11,722 GREYHOUNDS INJURIES MORE THAN 3,000 DOGS HAVE SUFFERED BROKEN LEGS OTHER INJURIES SUCH AS CRUSHED SKULLS, BROKEN BACKS , PARALYSIS AND ELECTROCUTION. RACING COMMISSIONS HAVE A HISTORY OF REGULATORY FAILURES AND INDUSTRY ATTEMPTS AT SELF-REGULATING HAVE PROVEN TO BE INEFFECTIVE MORE THAN 80,000 YOUNG GREYHOUNDS HAVE ENTERED THE RACING INDUSTRY, IT BEWILDERING THAT ROUTINE CRUELTY LENDING TO THE FREQUENT DEATHS OF DOGS IS CONSIDERED A REASONABLE A CONSEQUENCE LEGAL SPORT. THAT HAPPENS IS A SHAME WHEATHER BY MARKET PRESSURES OR POWER OF OUR VOICES GREYHOUND RACING MUST END.
PLEASE HELP US IN ENDING THE CRUELTY OF GREYHOUND RACING.
