Petition to Council of the European Union
Our time is running out
Many explorers, travel writers, photographers, and artists have been inspired by the glacial beauty of the Arctic over the years. Whether it is the vast ice sheets that cover much of the region’s landscape, the amazing array of wildlife to be found there or the stunning Northern Lights that illuminate its skies, the mysterious sights of this area have never failed to enthrall all those who witness them. Sadly, however, many parts of the region are under serious threat of disappearing forever, thanks to the human-created phenomenon of climate change. Most of the people on Earth, at least those who have not been convinced by corrupt politicians at the hands of large powerful corporations who deny the existence of climate change, agree that climate change is a serious problem that we need to face as rapidly as possible. Even so, we all assume that one day future generations will solve the problem, so that we can continue with our lifestyles and ignore this environmental emergency. Well, there's not enough time to wait for future generations to come and prevent the problem from reaching a non-returning point. The consequences of climate change are well known. The thaw of ice layers with the release of huge amounts of methane trapped in the arctic permafrost and the change of soil to a darker color (which causes a feedback effect), the destruction of whole ecosystems, ocean acidification, extreme weather, sea level rise, changes in ocean's natural currents, coral bleaching and massive species extinction, between other things. In fact, the current rate of extinction of species is 1000 times higher than the natural rate. There is now more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than there has been for the past 800,000 years and all of this extra heat is melting the glaciers at the astounding rate of 8.8 million acres per year. Not to mention that climate change is also a social problem that affects the most vulnerable groups under this neoliberal system of opression. When I started this petition, six years ago, The Great Barrier Reef was struggling for its life and all the life that carries. In 2018, the World's largest living structure which is the Reef, was almost totally bleached. In a study published by the journal Nature scientists report that nearly one-third of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s largest living structures, was killed when ocean temperatures spiked in 2016. The underwater heat wave that damaged large areas of the Great Barrier Reef in 2018 has scientists wondering if it will ever be the same again. “The reef is changing faster than anyone thought it would,” Terry P. Hughes, the lead author of the study and the director of a government-funded center for coral reef studies at James Cook University in Queensland, told the New York Times. Rising ocean temperatures result in coral reefs bleaching, which is a process where the coral’s colorful, symbiotic algae that help keep it nourished dies off. The coral’s white skeleton is left behind and because it doesn’t have a source of nourishment, it becomes more susceptible to disease that can prohibit future growth. Without new growth, the coral dies. Austraila’s Great Barrier Reef is home to thousands of species, including sharks, turtles, and whales. The scientists noted that if greenhouse gas emissions continue at their current rate, the reef will be unrecognizable. This is just one exemple of the cost of our lifestyles and it clearly shows how fast this cost is being paid The fact that our unsustainable consumption patterns are causing climate change is now well established. It is clear that our unbridled exploitation of the planet’s resources for meat consumption and the benefit of all types of industry is causing irreversible damage. It was recently reported that human-generated greenhouse gas emissions have even managed to cancel the next ice age, scheduled to take place in 50,000 years’ time. LETTER: (English) On behalf of the more than 200.000 supporters of this petition, Climate change is already underway, the time to act and to limit its human causes is now, many studies have shown. If the world had stopped global carbon emissions at the beginning of the year, there would be a 64% chance that the maximum temperature of the planet would remain below the target of 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above the pre-industrial levels. The planet would continue heating for a few decades, but the temperatures would end up balancing.Above these levels, scientists predict that the planet will see more extreme weather phenomena, apart from a massive extinction of millions of species (an extinction whose rate is currently 1000 times higher than the natural rate of extinction) and a high shortage of food for millions of people. The planet is already two thirds of the way, with global temperatures reaching 1 degree Celsius. Limiting the increase in temperature reduces the risks of irreversible damage. The sooner we act, the less expensive the transition will be and the lower the temperature increase, the less climate-related damage will cost us. To maintain the global average temperature within this optimum limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius, the change would have to occur in all sectors, not only in the energy sector. The power plants would have to be replaced, but so would the automobile and transport sector and the fossil fuel sector, which along with the energy sector, takes over the entire industrial sector of the massified consumer society. The entire agricultural and livestock sector, especially the vacuum, should change if we intend to feed a population that is reaching 8,000 million people. That is to say, the whole system must change, as well as our way of thinking and main pillars that sustain today’s society and the current economic system. Despite the fact that living in an exploited and uninhabitable planet (our home) is the biggest issue that we face nowadays, it is predicted that the pressure on the planet and resources will continue to increase in the coming years. It is known that the goals of the Paris agreement of 2015, although they are insufficient, they are far from being achieved. Under this scenario of immobilization I urge, along with the other signatories, a series of rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society. All of us recognize this environmental emergency and as inhabitants of the planet we have united to demand an urgent change. We are not apart from nature, we are a part of nature. Portrait video from National Geographic channel.

Increase penalties for drivers running from Police
Instead of blaming the NZ Police for doing their job. The government needs to step up and make the penalty for evading the NZ Police far greater. Most people know that you are required to Stop for the Police. Increase the penalties to a minimum of five years for failing to stop and causing a Police Pursuit; and if someone is injured or killed then the penalty increases to a minimum of ten years or more.

Stop cutting 54k mangroves in Maharashtra for running bullet train
Over 54000 mangrove trees covering 13.36 hectares of land are to be razed for The Bullet Train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This is going to be devastating for both the biodiversity and climate. India is already battling heatwave conditions with Delhi marked under red category by Indian Meteorological Department and temperature of Rajasthan reaching above 50°C along with visual rise in temperature throughout the country and this is only going to make conditions worse. Plants by evaporating water through their leaves into the atmosphere not only maintains the water cylce keeping rain schedules but also reduces atmospheric temperature by 4°C. If 51°C is already more than enough to endure would an increase of more 4°C be helpful? This project needs to be stopped or find another alternative without causing any damage to our environment. We need development but not at the cost of our lives.
Petition to Facebook
Stop Facebook from running political advertisements that are not fact-checked.
On 9 Jan 2020, Facebook once again announced that it will not fact-check advertisements run by politicians or political organizations, instead taking a less disciplined stance of allowing people to limit which advertisements they are seeing. The year is 2020, and social media is a majour component and power platform for politicians, not just in the United States, but abroad as well. This is a blatant monetary decision based on revenue income under the guise of free speech. As a company, Facebook has the ability to ensure its platform is used to enhance discussions, open healthy channels for debate and bring the truth to the community members who use their service daily. Facebook has the revenue to ensure that advertisements are fact-checked and accurate before they are ran. This gives the public the ability to consume honest, straight-forward ads as opposed to smear campaigns and disinformation attempts. They simply do not want to take a hit to their overall income by declining advertisement revenue due to holding politicians accountable. This is not a luxury, this is a responsibility that they have. Lawmakers agree - attempting to pass "The Honest Ads Act" but the public has a stronger pull as some current sitting lawmakers would rather continue to use the platform for disinformation. Sign the petition and tell Facebook to hold our representatives accountable to the truth.

Keep Netflix's "House of Cards" running with Kevin James replacing Kevin Spacey
Losing a great show is hard, no matter the circumstances. However with hardship comes the opportunity for a great show to become one of the greatest television shows of all time. I think Kevin James can elevate "House of Cards" to a globally adored franchise like "Game of Thrones" and make the entire world focus on one of the most important Netflix Original series there is.

Take Action: Time is running out to protect sage-grouse and other western wildlife!
Thank President Obama and his administration for their historic efforts, and urge them to finish the task of protecting the sagebrush region! The greater sage-grouse, an iconic bird known for the male’s fascinating mating dance, lives its entire life in the wide-open spaces of the American West, sharing its sagebrush home with more than 350 other species, including elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and golden eagles. But the bird’s population has plummeted during the past century, with more than half of the sagebrush land lost or degraded, in large part because of unbalanced management of our Western lands. Fire, the spread of invasive plants, oil and gas development, and other activities have significantly affected populations. However, there is hope: We have the opportunity to save the sage-grouse, and your voice is crucial to ensuring responsible protections for the bird and its habitat. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the largest land manager of sage-grouse country, has just released plans for conservation of the sage-grouse and its sagebrush home throughout the West. Although they represent an improvement from the draft plans released in 2013, they still need some fine-tuning to heed the best available scientific advice regarding sage-grouse habitat needs. There is still time for the BLM to get it right. Please urge President Obama and other decision-makers to adequately conserve the remaining healthy sagebrush landscapes for the benefit of the greater sage-grouse and other wildlife that make their home in these remarkable places. Dammed to extinction, Southern Resident Orcas are starving. Time is running out!
The 73 remaining wild critically endangered salmon-eating Southern Resident Orcas are dying from starvation. ⇒ Leaving an effective breeding population less than 30, near the point of no recovery. Breach the Lower Snake River Dams this year Why are these Orcas starving? More than 50% of their diet comes from salmon produced in the Columbia Basin, half of which were produced in the Snake River System. How is dam breaching possible? Since 2002, the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has designated dam breaching as the best solution to recover wild salmon on the Snake River. The Corps of Engineers can implement breaching the dams now by using the existing 2002 EIS's 'Breach Alternative Four.' The Impact and benefits of breaching: • If the lower Snake River dams were breached, it would double or triple survival rates, restoring many millions of fish to the Columbia Basin. • Give the orcas a fighting chance to recover by increasing their food supply. • Breaching costs the state nothing. The first two dams can be breached for the cost of another EIS estimated at $80 million; 5 years to completion. • The four lower Snake River dams in Eastern Washington do not provide flood control and produce only low value surplus electricity. • Savings from these dams can be applied to more efficient dams and/or projects. • NOTHING else, not more spill across the dams, not more hatchery fish, not less boat traffic, not more studies and a new EIS can achieve this in time to save wild salmon or Southern Resident Orcas. Congressional Legislation or new appropriations are not needed to start breaching the Snake River dams this year! SENATOR PATTY MURRAY AND GOVERNOR JAY INSLEE, Please take action today and urge the Army Corps' General Helmlinger and Bonneville Power Administration's Elliot Mainzer to begin breaching dams this year. Thank you to the hundreds of thousands who have petitioned for immediate dam breaching, for those of you who want more information on how to save the salmon and orcas, visit DamTRUTH

Keep the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit running!
I am an avid car enthusiast, it's in my blood. Grew up around cars and racing my entire life. Now, you could understand my frustration when I hear that the newly constructed racetrack in my hometown of Duncan, B.C. is being sued by numerous residents due to noise complaints. That track is the only safe haven for the owners of high end performance vehicles on the island, and shutting the track down would not only decrease tourism in the town, but force the owners of those cars to find elsewhere to take them, whether it be the streets of the community, or a racetrack on the mainland. Although I haven't been to the facility myself due to the cost of entry, I have started this petition with my car enthusiast friends in mind. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want my kids out playing with high performance cars screaming by, so sign your name, and let's vote to keep the track open!
