There is a new firearms retailer named Big Daddy Guns set to open this summer in Morgantown in a newly developed storefront complex, The Deck. While this would not be the first gun retailer in the the recent and reoccurring gun tragedies, we must oppose the opening of any firearms retailer so retailer opens in The Deck, we risk this number increasing. As shown in a study by David Blake. The close proximity of this retailer to multiple schools, businesses, and vulnerable populations only heightens the risk of gun-related violence. Read more

Petition to Government of India, Amazon.com, Walmart
The world is being inundated with products from China, that are unfairly priced, using questionable manufacturing practices. Policies of the Chinese government also actively encourage such dumping, all the while closing its borders to fair imports from the rest of the world.
India and its consumers are disadvantaged by this practice. If online retailers like Amazon, Flipkart/Walmart prominently display the "Place of Manufacture" information prominently in their listing, consumers can make informed purchase decisions. Today, for an Indian, knowing if a product is manufactured in China is of immense importance.
This petition is to (a) insist that all online retailers display Place of Manufacture prominently against every product they sell and (b) ask Government of India to enact laws that mandate every online product vendor prominently state "Place of Manufacture" against every product a vendor sells.
You & I should stand up against this economic bullying by China, and one way is to shun Chinese products progressively, allowing other countries including India manufacture and offer more choices to the Indian consumer. Read more
5/16/21 Update: Hello, all!
We recently received new information from an industry insider, which we believe may be a more effective approach. Essentially, she explained that Amazon—as well as other retailers—often take their cues from the Book Industry Study Group's Book Industry Standards and Communications Codes. (Say that three times fast!)
This group is OPEN to suggestions! In fact, due to public demand, they added this category for 2021: FIC079000 FICTION / Disabilities & Special Needs
Let's use the same tactic to ensure people with disabilities are able to see themselves represented in ROMANCE. Please, join us in filling out their suggestion form:https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K9CH9MD
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! ❤
P.S. To help make sure we’re all on the same page—and because it asks some things most of us may not know off the top of our heads—we jotted down some example information: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nmFcZTe0XIk_-mMMZsNOrCGt3_0LMiwIYyGNMlFEn6g/edit?usp=sharing
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katie Mettner—author of over fifty romance novels featuring characters with disabilities—has been requesting a “Disabled Romance” subcategory for nearly a decade now.
“The disabled community deserves accurate representation,” she told us, “and the ability to find their books in the same manner as everyone else.”
To put this into perspective, Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform (KDP) currently allows authors to choose from the following subcategories of romance:
• General• African American• Collections & Anthologies• Contemporary• Erotica• Fantasy• Gay• Historical• Lesbian• Military• Multicultural & Interracial• New Adult• Paranormal• Romantic Comedy• Science Fiction• Suspense• Time Travel• Western
Using keywords, the possibilities are expanded to an additional 35 subcategories, including classifications such as Romantic Themes>Secret Baby and Romance>Inspirational>Amish.
With such niche areas highlighted, you would think adding a sub-category for "Disabled Romance" would be no problem for the retail giant. After all, according to The World Bank, one billion people—or 15% of the world’s population—experience some form of disability.
Take Tracy, for example. As a fan of Mettner’s, she recently lamented her inability to find similar books on Amazon. Because she has a visual disability and uses a screen reader, it’s difficult for her to navigate the website beyond standard categories.
Unfortunately, Amazon’s support team provides the same answer to every request for change: “Currently we can't add new Categories to our browsing lists, but feel free to check back from time to time. These classifications do expand and change as our Books store grows.”
Since Amazon has provided no means for appeal or further contact, we created this petition. Maybe if we join together as readers and allies, our collective voice will be heard. Thank you for your support!Read more

Petition to Target, Kroger, Walmart, CVS Pharmacy, Rite-Aid, Walgreens
Every year 8 million MORE metric tons of plastic are ending up in our oceans ON TOP of the 150 million metric tons that are already there. We are producing over 300 million tons of plastic very year. Half of that is for single-use purposes. We use it for a few moments and then it’s on the planet trying to biodegrade for hundreds of years.
Let’s start with plastic bags. THERE SHOULD BE NO OPTION TO LEAVE ANY STORE WITH A PLASTIC BAG. In New Zealand, there are NO BAGS. People bring their own or use the cardboard boxes left over from store shipments to carry their items home. That’s LOCAL RESPONSIBILITY and GLOBAL LEADERSHIP. Why aren’t the biggest companies in the richest nation in the world doing that? There are many alternatives to plastic bags (paper, reusable, cardboard shipping boxes or no bag at all) and while a plastic bag may seem convenient, it comes with a huge environmental price tag. WE JUST HAVE TO DO THE RIGHT THING. The world changed on a dime to save ourselves from Covid 19. Let’s change on a dime to save ourselves from a planet choked in plastic. Read more

The week of September 26th, Maurices.com accepted and confirmed orders from many customers who applied coupon codes created by the company. Orders that were accepted through the website and payment accepted should be upheld by the company. Confirmation emails were sent to customers, even including the words "Sold to: customers name". That is a confirmation of an agreement to sell on their behalf and that the buyer will pay. Without consideration for customer service or their word to he agreements made when orders were accepted, on September 29th, Maurice's chose to cancel many of said agreements. Some orders are being upheld as agreed upon and shipped, while others are being cancelled. In these days of connection and the ease in customers connecting and talking, that is just bad business. In the name of good customer service and to restore trust in the company, we are asking Maurice's to do the right thing and uphold the orders they accepted and confirmed. Read more
Walmart’s torture of pigs is a real American horror story. Driven mad from boredom and stress, pregnant pigs confined to filthy gestation crates endure nightmarish conditions I would not wish on my worst enemies. Walmart must stop supporting cruel gestation crates.
Hello, I’m James Cromwell, and I just narrated the latest undercover investigation by Mercy For Animals at a major Walmart pork supplier. What I saw in this video is a living nightmare. And it has got to stop!
At Walmart pork suppliers, thousands of pregnant pigs spend nearly their entire lives crammed into cages so small they can barely move. They can’t turn around, walk or even lie down comfortably for nearly their entire lives.
In the video, pigs can be seen constantly ramming their heads against their tiny stalls out of stress and frustration. These intelligent and social animals are literally driven mad from sheer boredom and lack of stimulation.
Animal welfare experts around the world agree that these crates are inherently cruel and should be phased out. In fact, gestation crates are so cruel they have been banned in nine U.S. states, as well as in the entire European Union.
Responding to consumer concerns, nearly every major food provider in the country, including McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Chipotle, Safeway, Kroger, Kmart and Costco, have demanded their suppliers do away with these cruel crates. Even Walmart Canada has agreed to phase out gestation crates.
But not Walmart in the United States.
Walmart continues to support this blatant animal abuse by selling pork from suppliers who confine pigs in tiny crates.
Please, help me put a stop to this. Take a moment to sign my Change.org petition urging Walmart to do the right thing and demand their pork suppliers stop confining pigs in cruel gestation crates.
Thank you.
James Cromwell

On December 14, 2010, 30 Bangladeshi factory workers were burned alive when an easily preventable fire broke out in the unsafe, multi-story sweatshop in which they were working. These men and women worked for “That’s It Sportswear” producing clothing for famous U.S. brands.
Thanks to pressure from Change.org members, seven of the eight brands (including J.C. Penney) doing business with the factory owners – the Hameem Group – signed a commitment to ensure fair compensation for the injured workers and surviving family members of the workers who died and to take meaningful steps to stop the epidemic of workplace deaths at US brands’ apparel factories in Bangladesh. Now J.C. Penney has shamefully broken this pledge. Today, six of the eight brands continue negotiating in good faith to establish an adequate worker compensation fund and sustainable fire safety initiatives. J.C. Penney, however, has dropped out.
We need your help to send a message to J.C. Penney to honor the commitments they made in January.
In Bangladesh, nearly 500 workers have died in factory fires during the past five years. Establishing effective initiatives to prevent fires like this from occurring again is critical. Nothing less than workers’ lives are at stake. Don’t let J.C. Penney walk away from workers in Bangladesh.Read more
