I know that I am not just Speaking for myself when I say that the condition of these Calgary housing units are absolutely atrocious.The continuous outbursts of bedbugs/cockroachs, sewage back-up, mold and etc. Its more then just inconvenient and gross, but its actually deteriorating our health by not meeting standard health and housing regulations. The citys idea of a solution is fumigation however that is no solution that is a temporary fix other wise majority of these units/ houses wouldnt have to be fumigated more then once and if their continuously coming back then the whole process is worthless and does not work! The mold in my unit right now has made my younger brother sick and yet calgary housing or better yet the City of Calgary will not step up the plate and actually solve the issue, Majority if the residents living in these places are people who may me low income or single income so how is it fair that we should have to lower our standards of living. I strongly believe that the city of Calgary and Calgary housing must start taking action now by tearing down any of the units that are older than 2000s rebuilding them and during that time re-homing all those residents within Calgary housing and that stands for residents without tenant insurance too, easier said then done for sure but you may as well start somewhere having new housing could solve so many problems, I think the last thing the city wants is to be responsible for our urgent cares and hospitals to be flooded with people all because of their living situation which could have been prevented easily
