Help support the MSA and all future Muslim students on campus by signing this petition to show the university that Islamophobia, and especially defacing the honour of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ should and will never be tolerated.
On November 11th, 2022, an English Professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough displayed an extremely disrespectful Islamophobic image of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In Islam, all of the Prophets are to be treated with a high degree of respect, whether it be Jesus, Moses or Muhammad, peace be upon all of them. It is also Islamically impermissible to depict an image of any of the Prophets.
The Incident
On November 11th, the professor displayed a picture as an example of satire which showed a caricature of the Islamic Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) engaging in homosexual PDA (public display of affection) [kissing] a male cartoon that was wearing a shirt that said: “Je suis Charlie” which translates to “I am Charlie”. The image was titled L’Amour plus fort que la haine translating to “love is stronger than hate”.
Two weeks later, upon encouragement from a friend, she spoke to the professor during his office hours on November 25th, to convey her concerns as a Muslim student. The professor was extremely dismissive of her concerns, making statements such as “If I don’t respect Christianity why should I do that for Islam?”, and “If I stop presenting this it would justify the shooting of 17 people”. The professor was also hesitant to consider including a content warning. The professor has been known to show extreme caution and disapproval towards other satirical content depicting sexual harassment for example, but the same level of caution was not exercised when it came to the depiction of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Our Demands
1. Removal of this image from the curriculum content for all future offerings of ENGC48.
2. Practical commitment to not depicting any image of any Islamic Prophets at UTSC spaces going forward.
3. Public acknowledgement to all students that the use of this image and the lack of framing was incorrect. This should include an apology to those who felt their identities attacked/ridiculed publicly.
4. Mandatory anti-Islamophobia training for the Professor. NCCM offers Faculty-level training.
Current Updates
The student reached out to the UTSC MSA on January 9th, 2023. Within two days we set up a meeting to speak with a representative from NCCM, a civil liberties and human rights organization that focuses on combating Islamophobia. Since then, NCCM has assisted the MSA in getting in contact with and setting up a meeting with UTSC faculty. To our disappointment, little to no tangible action steps were made regarding our demands to the university.
The Muslim community deserves to feel safe from such traumatic and deeply disrespectful content being displayed on campus. Sign this petition to show the university that the Muslim community and our allies will not allow such an outrageous incident to be swept under the rug!Read more

Plastic is widely used in our day to day life. Starting from a pen to a polythene bag in which we carry fruits and books are forms of plastic. Though convenient in our day to day use, it has posed an alarming threat to the environment. Plastic is non-biodegradable and do not decay by biological actions of microbes. They remain in the same state as we throw them. So, dumps or garbages are created making our cities and soil polluted. To destroy plastics, we can either recycle or burn them. If we burn plastic, they emit harmful chemical gases like carbon dioxide (CO,), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrous oxide (NO), methane (CH4), sulphur dioxides (SO2), etc. These gases pollute our environment, though in negligible content, they add to green house effect and endanger our environment. Due to wide scale use of plastic, water, soil and air pollutions are caused. These polluted components of environment lead to imbalance of various ecosystem of the Only solution to this plastic hazard is to take preventive measures and for that,a.
