How many times have you called state board to ask a question and they either were unsure and directed you to someone's voicemail or the answer varies depending on who you talk to?
Too many. Everyone in the industry has one or several stories like this. We depend on the knowledge of the state board to ensure we are staying within the rules and regulations of the laws set for us. Without receiving accurate information we are subject to spreading bad information to others as well as putting ourselves and others in violation of the laws, rules and regulations. This effects business owners, estheticians, barbers, cosmetologists, nail technicians, instructors, students, and most importantly our clients. If misinformation is being given by the state board we could possibly hurt someone, thus, hurting our business.
This petition is to demand our state board do better by us. The individuals answering the phones need to know the laws, rules and regulations inside and out. They need to know enough of the history of past laws, rules and regulations to assist in answering our questions accurately. Additionally, no matter who takes your call, the answer will stay the same and no longer vary from person to person. Signing this petition means that you take your industry, your hard work, and your expensive education and license seriously by taking an active interest in being able to rely on the state board for answers without worry of inaccuracy.

There are very few drugs on the market that effectively treat Pseudotumor Cerebri / Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. The few that are out there have debilitating side effects often leading patients to stop taking them. Doctors who treat patients like us know very little about this disease. There is very little research being done for better drugs, treatment options, and care of these patients. Doctors will look at a patient and say “your overweight, lose weight and this will go away”. Despite many patients being of normal BMI and having been diagnosed with this very same disease proves this disease does not discriminate to only the obese population. A national protocol standard needs to be developed for when a patient goes to the Emergency room when the pain becomes excruciating because their brain is literally being crushed by cerebral spinal fluid. These patients are not coming in to be treated for a migraine and we are not drug seeking. Something needs to change!
