STOP PUPPY FACTORY IN WEST GIPPSLAND

PLEASE BE AWARE : PERMIT WAS PASSED BY ALL BUT 2 BAW BAW COUNCILLERS MAJORITY WON, thankyou Crs D Goss and J O'Donnell for trying ! (see other updates below) WILL KEEP THIS PETITION OPEN INCASE ITS NEEDED FOR FUTURE REFERENCE, AS WE WILL BE WATCHING THIS PUPPY FACTORY ! A puppy factory application (PLA 0216/18) is in the final stages of whether to be approved by Baw Baw Shire. This establishment has applied to house 200 dogs, including 40 fertile dogs (see petition update below posted 6/2 changed to 10) at one time in Drouin West. Running the establishment will be a woman & her 2 children aged 11 & 12 (yes 200 dogs, big staff) The recent tough puppy factory laws implemented into Victoria recently allow only 10 fertile dogs at one time & up to 50 for commercial businesses with very harsh conditions, starting from April 2020. Many puppy factory farmers have & are in the process of moving across the border to NSW to be able to continue their barbaric business. That being said if this permit is granted we will be taking a step backwards by opening our door to another puppy factory! We need to urgently let council know we do not want this application approved for the many reasons & mainly for the sake of the millions of already homeless animals out there! The latest update of the Code of Practice for the “Operation of Breeding & Rearing businesses” states each dog is only allowed 5 litters in a lifetime, ask the question who will monitor this?What will happen to the dogs when finished with? This proposal impacts upon all rate payers currently paying for the shire to operate a pound where hundreds of healthy, but homeless dogs & cats are cared for. The building plan premises are too small to cater for 200 dogs. Animals confined to small areas are at risk of bacterial disease such as zoonosis of which can be past onto other animals & cause health issues in humans. Parvovirus can be caused by extensive cluttered waste and can cause health issues. Who will monitor this ? To keep a healthy environment in our area & stand by our new Victorian Laws this must NEVER be approved!
