End the 'anak angkat' for Sabah & Sarawakian natives in MY public tertiary institution.

Regarding very poor Facilities in Institution campus of NIT BHOPAL
The following petition is aimed to attract your kind attention towards the irresponsible and callous conduct of MANIT administration. Being a college of national importance, it should have greater transparency and credibility but the administration have failed on all stances like academics, student welfare, basic infrastructures and amenities and hostel facilities. But instead of working on above said problems the college administration have adopted tyrannical stand on students.Process of bike ban in campus, as initiated by MANIT administration is a draconian step that falls short of all logic's due to the following concrete reasons.MANIT has a widespread campus of 650 acres, which has hilly terrain. So it becomes difficult for students to commute in campus without personalized vehicles. Cycling in a hilly terrain is not a feasible option and as college administration is not providing a concrete alternative (sufficient amount of buses) to bikes for commutation, implementation of such a step would affect student welfare at larger scale. Due to close proximity to tropic of cancer, Bhopal records very high temperature in summers and high rainfall in monsoon. So as a result it would be impossible to cover such large distances without buses in such a vast campus due to poor roads and lack of shades.College administration is forcibly dictating bike ban on students by unethical means (detaining students from appearing in the end-term exams). As a result students are struck in such a perpetual state of mental trauma which is worsening day by day.Due to lack of adequate medical facility such as 24x7 running dispensary, sufficient no. of ambulances, absence of qualified doctors, lack of medical infrastructure the life of students are at stake. These lacks of facilities have forced students to keep their own personal vehicles in order to deal with any mishappening. Poor street lighting and stray animals makes it very dangerous for pedestals to even cover small distances in night. Due to pathetic state of academics in college, students are forced to join coaching institutes outside the college campus to succeed in competitive exams and due to poor public transit system in Bhopal, it becomes almost impossible for students to travel such large distances without their own vehicles. Our hostels are poorly equipped with basic facilities, so the students have to travel all the way out of the campus to avail such facilities. This will become problematic without our personalized vehicles. The real cause of accidents in the campus is the widespread intoxication's (liquor, marijuana) among the students. Unable to deal with the above crisis administration is trying to garb its inability by forcibly banning the bikes. The main cause of above mentioned problems is the nonavailability and accessibility of a PERMANENT DIRECTOR in the college for common issues and problems related to welfare of students.

Promote Cruelty-Free Exhibits at the Guggenheim
The Guggenheim is gearing up for a special exhibit to air for three months beginning Oct 6, 2017 called "Art and China after 1989." If the Guggenheim's plans stay as they are, the exhibit will feature several distinct instances of unmistakable cruelty against animals in the name of art. In one example, artists Peng Yu and Sun Yuan tether four pairs of American pit bulls to eight wooden treadmills for a live exhibit. The dogs are faced off against one another, running "at" each other but prevented from touching one another, which is a stressful and frustrating experience for animals trained to fight. The dogs get wearier and wearier, their muscles more and more prominent, and their mouths increasingly salivate. At this live 2003 "performance" in China, a video was recorded, complete with close-up shots of the dogs' frantic, foaming faces. This 7-minute video will be on display at the Guggenheim exhibit (information from NY Times article "Where the Wild Things Are: China’s Art Dreamers at the Guggenheim"). In another example, artist Xu Bing stamped meaningless characters all over the bodies of two pigs, a boar and a sow, who were put on display, mating, in a museum exhibit in Beijing in 1994. The Guggenheim will feature the video of that "performance" as well. Finally, this exhibit will feature live animals (reptiles, amphibians, insects) that are trapped in a glass enclosure for attendee viewing. According to the NY Times article, "During the three-month exhibition some creatures will be devoured; others may die of fatigue. The big ones will survive. From time to time, a New York City pet shop will replenish the menagerie with new bugs." Help us send a message to the Guggenheim by signing this petition. Let them know that animal cruelty holds no place in art in the United States, nor should it anywhere in the world. This assault on animals in the name of art will not be tolerated or supported. Guggenheim - please do what you know in your heart is right. Take a stand with our animal cohabitants of this planet, and pull the pieces employing these cruel methods from your upcoming show. Guggenheim - tell the world what you stand for: bold, controversial art that breaks barriers and challenges social norms, which does NOT include the promotion of cruelty against innocent beings.
Petition to UCLA Chancellor Gene Block
Stop Discriminating and Retaliating Against Dr. Christian Head
It is shameful that a respected African American faculty surgeon at the UCLA Medical Center could be intentionally demeaned based on his race and that university officials could ignore blatant acts of racial discrimination. But that is what is happening at UCLA. Imagine being graphically depicted as a gorilla in a slideshow photo. That alone is offensive. But the fact that the slide was publicly presented for laughs during an annual medical school sponsored event attended by more than 200 physicians, faculty, residents and guests is both shocking and indefensible. Not only was Dr. Christian Head’s face superimposed onto the body of a gorilla standing on all-fours, but the photo also depicted him being sodomized by his Caucasian supervisor. This, unfortunately, was just one of a series of racially motivated incidents that Dr. Head has had to deal with over the past several years at UCLA. His complaints to administrative leaders at the Medical Center, the University and UC Regents have gone unanswered. In fact, his complaints have spurred additional acts of humiliation, attempts to push him out of academic medicine and retaliation. The Los Angeles Wave and Los Angeles Times newspapers have written about the vindictive and racially motivated actions that UCLA Medical Center supervisors have taken against Dr. Head, the ONLY African American surgeon in the Head & Neck Department. In fact, Dr. Head is only 1 of 2 tenured African American teaching surgeons in the entire UCLA Medical School out of more than 200 faculty surgeons. Rather than do the right thing to keep the work environment free from discrimination, UCLA has opted to ignore Dr. Head’s formal requests to stop the harassment and retaliation against him. Racial discrimination has no place in institutions of higher education or, for that matter, anywhere in our society. Tell UCLA to stop the discrimination.

Petition to Delhi Charter School
Stop Discriminating Against Pregnant Students!
As a former teen mom, I know how hard it is to stay in school and graduate on time when you're pregnant or taking care of a new baby. So I was shocked to learn that the Delhi Charter School in Delhi, Louisiana is shaming and suspending pregnant students -- and imposing mandatory pregnancy tests on students who "might" be pregnant. Students at Delhi Charter School -- which is publicly funded -- who are suspected of being pregnant are forced to take mandatory pregnancy tests. If they refuse, they're told to stay home or transfer. And if they test positive, they're told to stay home or transfer. This discrimination is illegal. But the administration at Delhi Charter School seems to be more interested in making sure pregnant girls can't get an education than in obeying federal law. That's why I started this petition to tell the Delhi Charter School administration to stop forcing girls to take pregnancy tests, and to stop shaming and suspending pregnant students and students who refuse to take the tests. Does this kind of shaming stop teen pregnancies and build stronger, better educated communities? No. I know because I was a teen mom at 17, and now I work with teen moms every day in Boston. 7 years ago, I told teachers and administrators at my high school I was pregnant, thinking they'd want to help me graduate and build a future for myself and my child. Instead, they made me feel ashamed and unwelcome, and made it almost impossible for me to attend classes, jeopardizing my education and my future. I was lucky enough to be able to transfer and, today, I work with other teen moms to support them in graduating on time and growing into successful adults. But the wonderful young women I work with have to overcome huge obstacles -- 30% of all teen girls who drop out of high school leave because of pregnancy, and 70% of teen girls who give birth end up leaving school. Advocacy groups and legal experts have already told Delhi Charter School their policy of mandatory pregnancy tests and suspending pregnant students breaks several federal laws because it discriminates against female students -- it also violates the Constitution. The Delhi Charter School says it "may rethink" the policy, but in the meantime, they can still shame pregnant students. Tell the school to immediately eliminate mandatory pregnancy tests and commit to giving pregnant students the same the same education, in the same place and at the same time, as all other students.

Protect the Unique Cultural Institution of Westminster Reference Library
Why is this SO important? The library has a designated status as a specialist collection of over 15,000 books on the performing arts, a third of which are available to borrow. It also houses a unique archive of arts publications, some going back to the 19th century. There is no library like it in the UK, possibly in Europe. It has historically offered a wonderful research resource for members of the public, national and international arts students and London's theatrical and arts communities. And it has provided a venue for a range of diverse arts events and a hub for debate and interaction, a ‘creative city’ open to a new and ever changing audience. See HERE for just one example. Westminster is drastically reducing its libraries budget.Staff surviving the proposed cuts at the reference library will have to manage on a skeleton rota with no time to maintain activity beyond basic services. This will lead to an inevitable decline in service making the library vulnerable to a future potential case made for its closure. The Library makes a crucial cultural contribution to London's West End. The library occupies an historic building on the site of Isaac Newton's house and sits directly behind the National gallery providing a free public heart right in the commercial centre of the city's theatre and cinema district. Find out more HERE. Please sign and share the petition to make sure the funding of the library and its staffing levels are maintained so that the library can continue to make such a positive contribution to the life of Westminster and those who live, work in and visit London. Thank you!
