Dear Boris,In this time of uncertainty and lack of clarity over matters regarding the education and future of a whole cohort of students about to take their GCSE and A level examinations here are the humble thoughts of a teacher with 21 years of experience......
Cancel all GCSE and A Level examinations this year. Postponing is a logistical nightmare and going ahead with them at this point is going to cause more stress and anxiety on a whole generation of students who are already suffering with an unprecedented level of mental health issues.
How will this work? Simple... By showing you have as much trust and faith in teachers as you need to have in your NHS and other key personnel over the next few months.
1. Allow teachers to give honest predicted grades for their students. We know them as more than just statistics. We are not going to try to 'cheat the system'. Students have done the work - the only element they will be missing from their education is the final exam. Will some students gain a better grade than if they sat the final exam? Probably. Will there be others that may well have done better had they had the opportunity to sit the exam under 'normal' conditions? Likely, but these are not normal conditions and teacher predictions will likely be a more accurate reflection of the vast majority of students educational journey over the past few years than a couple of hours writing a paper in these extraordinary times.
2. Allow any students who feel they could have done better than their prediction to re-sit the exam in November. This would be a completely voluntary option to be decided by the individual.
3. University places were offered on predicted grades, so there should be little effect there. In essence all places would be awarded 'unconditionally'.
4. Suspend all Ofsted inspections for the 2020-2021 academic year. Allow schools and students time to recover from any gap in education caused by closures without the added pressure of judgements by the inspectorate.
We are trained professionals. You defer to medical experts in a time of crisis. You also need to defer to your educational experts during this same time.
Yours SincerelyA TeacherRead more

Petition to Narendra Modi, Manipur Legislative Assembly, Amit Shah, N Biren Singh
This is a petition addressed to the Prime Minister of India, the Home Minister of India, the Chief Minister of Manipur, and the Manipur Legislative Assembly members to have a dialogue to bring Peace to Manipur.
As a concerned citizen deeply affected by the ongoing ethnic violence between the Kukis and Meities in Manipur, We are writing this petition to urge the Prime Minister of India and the Indian Government to take immediate action. The violence has caused immense suffering, claiming over 200 lives and displacing 70,000 people. It has disrupted education for children and brought economic activities to a standstill with skyrocketing inflation.Personal Story:We have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of this ethnic violence on my fellow citizens in Manipur (Meiteis and Kukis). Families torn apart, homes destroyed, and lives shattered – it is heart-wrenching to see such destruction unfold before our eyes. The fear that grips our communities every day is unbearable. The current situation demands urgent attention from the Indian government. We cannot let this violence continue any longer while innocent lives are lost, livelihoods are destroyed, and the future for all is jeopardized.Facts and Statistics:1. Over 200 deaths have been reported due to the ongoing ethnic violence between Kukis and Meities (Source:https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-66844028 ).2. More than 70,000 individuals have been displaced from their homes due to the conflict (Source: genocidewatch.com https://shorturl.at/nKP03 ).3. Schools remain closed due to safety concerns for children (Source: https://shorturl.at/nKP034. The economy of Manipur has suffered greatly with sky-high inflation rates affecting basic necessities (Source: indiatoday.in https://shorturl.at/fwK15 ).Petition Request:We respectfully urge the Prime Minister of India invite all MLAs from Manipur to New Delhi for an urgent dialogue aimed at resolving this escalating ethnic conflict peacefully.By bringing together representatives from both sides of the conflict under one roof in New Delhi, we believe meaningful discussions can take place towards finding a lasting solution that addresses grievances while fostering harmony among different communities in Manipur. It is crucial for the Prime Minister and the Indian Government to take a proactive role in facilitating this dialogue, as only their intervention can help bridge the divide and restore peace in Manipur. We urge prioritizing this issue and allocating necessary resources for an inclusive, unbiased dialogue process.Together, let us stand united against violence and work towards a peaceful resolution that ensures justice, security, and prosperity for all citizens of Manipur.
The idea to appeal to the PM to bring his MLAs to the negotiating table was first initiated by Professor Bimol Akoijam from JNU during a speech at Punjab University, Chandigarh on September 16th 2023. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTS1m3iCuac

In the last ten days, two friends of family members have committed suicide. I went online to try to better understand why they chose the methods they did. What I found shocked me.
Apart from one Lifeline ad at the top of the page, my search for "suicide" and "a method" invariably returned pages and pages of potentially lethal pro-suicide information. And only one place to get help. It's not good enough.
Imagine how many people could be helped, and saved, if Google organised search results in a way that helped people rewind and remember that help is always available?
I'm asking Google to organise information so that every search containing the word "suicide" and pro-suicide keywords returns results where every second result is a source of help.
Google has an ethical obligation to give search results that reflect the real world. In the real world, help is available 24 hours a day.
Please sign and share this petition - if enough of us take that few seconds, we will help Google to save lives.
Thanks and love,

In the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission response to Loup Public Power Power District's request for rehearing regarding their licensing dated Dec 21 ,2017 Section 116 reads as follows:
"We affirm that Headworks OHV Park is a project-related recreation facility. Therefore, Loup Power District is ultimately responsible for operating and maintaining it, regardless of whether it does so itself or hires a third party. The District’s arguments to the contrary are without merit."
The district continues to publicly say they will not open the park without the help of a third party to run, and ultimately be liable for the park operation. The district has repeatedly said there is a lack of a group with suitable expertise to serve in this capacity. In fact there has been a group formed willing and able from the same day that Nebraska off highway vehicle association folded. Currently there are two groups willing to serve in this capacity. Midwest Recreational Riders inc. And Headworks Users Group are willing to work together to help with the operations. Headworks users group is comprised of many of the board members that ran the Nebraska off Highway Vehicle Association for the majority of its time in service.
It has been nearly a year since this response with no progress on the opening of headworks and although there are multiple third parties willing to help we believe an undue burden is being asked of those third parties, namely the requirement of them to assume all liability, security and daily cost for the operation. This OHV park is listed as a project Recreational facility and we believe it should be reopened as required by section 116.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE ALSO AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS FOR TAX PURPOSES ACCORDING TO AUSTRALIAN TAXATION DEPARTMENT. THEY PAID SAME AMOUNT OF TAXES AS LIKE ANY AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS. BUT THEY NEVER ASKED FOR ANY BENEFIT IN RETURN. WE ALL KNOW THIS COVID-19 CRISIS AFFECTED BIG OR SMALL BUSINESSES. AS A RESULT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE LOSS THEIR JOBS. THE GOVERNMENT IS SUPPORTING ONLY RESIDENTS OF AUSTRALIA AND WHAT ABOUT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?? EVERY ONE DESERVES EQUAL RIGHTS.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE ALSO AT RISK AS IF THEY CONTRACTED VIRUS THEY HAVE NOBODY TO SUPPORT THEM. THEY HAVE NO SOCIAL PROTECTION HERE AND ALL THE PROTECTION IS FOR AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS. THEY HAVE NO FAMILY HERE. SUPPOSE THEY CONTRACTED THE VIRUS, THEY GOT SICK, WHO IS GONNA LOOK AFTER THEM?? IF ANYTHING HAPPENED TO THEM AS THEY HAVE NO RELIABLE INSURANCE POLICIES.
THEY CANNOT EVEN SEEK HELP FROM THEIR PARENTS AS THEY ARE ALSO AT HIGH RISK. OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD ACT IN SIMILAR PASSION TO ITALY'S GOVERNMENT AND THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD INCLUDE INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTS IN THE STIMULUS PACKAGE PLAN AND CANCEL THEIR RENT PAYMENTS.
OUR AUSTRALIAN ECONOMY EARNS $31BILLION PER YEAR FROM INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPORTS AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT ECONOMY AND THIS THE TIME AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT TO HOLD THEIR BACKS.
PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AND SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.
