GCI was a fun contest, and a motivation for me and thousands of other teenagers learning to code, design or who do anything with a computer. It gave you an opportunity to learn, continue and most importantly, make new friends.
GCI, for many people, was a special moment in their lives. A moment which introduced them to open source development, a moment which probably made them motivated enough to make them want to be a software developer.
GCI was one of the only places where teenagers could display their coding prowess and their talents. Where they could talk and get valuable inputs from experts. A place where they could need out.
