I work at Macy's, a company which is always in the spotlight for doing the right thing. Macy's is always recognizing and promoting charities and great humanitarian causes. Championing new markets and trying to make the world a better place through contributions and participation.
Unfortunately, the fact that every year for the last few years we have had to open earlier and earlier on Thanksgiving Day is horrible.
When I started here we were closed that day and were able to enjoy the day with our families. Then after a couple of years we opened at 5 am on Black Friday. Then a couple of years went by and we opened at midnight on Thanksgiving Day. Now Macy's is opening at 6 pm on Thanksgiving Day. The fact that a company which strives to be so supportive of family values and a proponent of healthy homes and family relationships, decides to turn it's back on its employees is irresponsible.
Macy's needs to understand that the families of its employees matter more than the bottom line and not open its stores on Thanksgiving Day. Macy's set the standard for a fair and respectful workplace, a place most people brag about working at. I believe they have lost their way and need to change the course for the good of the community and its employees!Read more

Petition to Ontario Provincial Government, Doug Ford
Ontario is currently facing another 28 day lockdown. While big box stores and internationally owned retailers continue to thrive under the provincial regulations, Ontario small businesses are being the target of yet another attack on our livelihoods.
When asked to comply during the first two lockdowns, we all did our part. We want to end the pandemic and resume regular life as soon as possible, and believed our provincial leaders had this goal in mind as well. This most recent shutdown is not a provincial lockdown. With packed malls, in-person schooling, and big box stores running with minimal regulations we cannot be asked to martyr ourselves in the name of lowering transmission.
The provincial government is closing businesses that are not responsible for transmission.
There are over 440,000 small businesses in Ontario. We have the largest number of small businesses of any other Canadian province, yet we are the only province to continually implement wide spread lockdowns of these companies.
We are restaurant owners, personal care businesses, health and fitness professionals, event professionals, creatives & artists and much more. We have the safest protocols in place across this province. We are educated in sanitation, we can provide safe and socially distanced environments, and we genuinely care about our employees and customers.
The Ford Government has made it clear that Ontario Small Businesses are not a priority.
Less than a week ago Doug Ford told restaurants they would be allowed to operate outdoor dining even in grey zones; this caused restaurant owners to spend thousands of dollars on these spaces only to find out that this would not be the case in this current closure. This level of carelessness and lack of foresight could be the demise of many locally owned restaurants.
We cannot continue with these closures. Our businesses will not survive. The strain these closures are having on our physical and mental health is being overlooked by many in our province; we cannot stand by and watch our communities be decimated by this lockdown.
This targeted closure of Ontario Small Businesses is inequitable and must end. Please sign and share this petition.

Petition to Andrew M. Cuomo, Charles E. Schumer, Senator Rachel May
This past week, thousands of small/family owned businesses were forced to close their doors in the fight against COVID-19. In a matter of days, independent businesses in all of our communities completely lost their income or have been severely limited in their offerings, causing lay-offs that match depression era devastation. This is not limited to but includes: restaurants, diners, bars, cafes, coffee shops, gift and novelty shops, hotel and banquet employees, salons, massage therapists, photographers, independent practitioners and artisans of every kind. I'm sure there are some that I've missed! These are the people that make up our communities. These are our neighbors. These are the people and places that give our local towns depth and provide income for so many local friends and families. How will all of these workers be able to pay rent/mortgages, care for children, maintain utilities for households and provide adequate food with reduced or zero income? I understand that government elects are working hard to create a stimulus package and I URGE you to pass legislation that will include small businesses. Providing relief to not just big corporations but for the every day people and families that have been devastated by this shut down. Please consider funding for independent businesses everywhere and the people that we love. This is the only way to ensure that our families and industries will sustain and be able to have a comeback when the time is right.

The TB12 company, owned by Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, received $960,855 in PPP loans that were meant to help small businesses. Tom Brady signed a deal in May worth $50 million. With this new contract, when combined with his earnings from his NFL contracts alone, he has made around $260 million over his 21 year career. Tom Brady is also married to Gisele Bunchen, who has a net worth of $400 million. I am not here to make the argument saying that Tom Brady does not deserve his NFL money, he earned it, so good for him. But by accepting this money, he is playing the government no better than any grifter would play a person on the street. My solution for him is that he should pay back this money or AT LEAST donate an equal amount of money to small businesses that would have received this money if his name did not get more attention. This is an issue that hits close to home for me as I’ve gone out of my way to help the small businesses near me and have seen so many fall by the wayside because they did not receive the help they needed.
It is during times like these, the year 2020 as a whole, we see the true nature of people. The side we are seeing from this couple is one of pure greed and being completely out of touch with what the common American is going through at this time.
Just standing around and lamenting on social media is not going to do anything, we need to band together and voice our concerns with how things are currently being done if we want change. Tom Brady needs to do what is right not just by my standards, but by the standards everyone holds; the people who should get help are the people who actually need help. Not the people who want to hoard and look down on others suffering. Read more
