ReleaseYennyuy Wanyu Flora from Detention
The Issue
Flora has been in the UK for seven years now and has become an integral part of the community work with the churches and also the Open Doors Project in Hull. Flora was also a trustee at the charity known as ‘The Mental Health Action Group’ where she was involved with making connection in to the black and minority ethnic (BME) communities to make them aware of mental health issues.
While in the UK Flora has not once asked for assistance from the state as she has consistently been in employment until her detention in March 2013, which was no fault of her own. Flora worked at Greencore bakery, she also worked for several care homes in the area of Kingston upon Hull and also an environmentally friendly recycling company called Environmail. This all followed her passing her Master’s degree at Hull University.
In August 2013 Flora was released from Yarls Wood on bail, but sadly her sureties had to withdraw. We then went to court in Sheldon in Birmingham and the court didn’t know that there was going to be a change of surety but thought it was just a review of the bail. Eventually with a lot of help from Mr David Forbes bail was granted again on 3rd December 2013 with a signing condition added, which meant that Flora would have to sign in at a local police station at regular intervals.
Sadly Flora has had to endure all of this through no fault of her own. In actual fact Flora is the victim in this case as she was reported to immigration by her former partner saying the relationship had broken down when actually it was due to his domestic violence and assault against her.
What we are trying to do is get justice for Flora and make the authorities look at her case again and take into consideration Article 8 and her new application: Application for Leave to Remain in The UK in a Category Not Covered By Other Application Forms and for a Biometric Immigration Document. As flora’s life has moved on now and she also has a new partner.
By signing this petition you would be helping to get the release of Flora and give her the opportunity to have a private life in the UK so that she can carry on contributing to this country as she has already been doing.
Thank You
