Allow us to have a memorial bench in memory of Kieran McColl on the location where we want it.
The Issue
After the tragic accident of Kieran McColl who sadly lost his life back in May by losing his footing, falling in the canal and drowning, we set up a public fundraiser page to raise £2500.00 for a memorial bench to be placed at the spot of where Kieran lost his life.
Within two days and the publics generosity we reached our target.
An application was then sent to the CRT where their memorial officer came out to see what we wanted.
After discussions he said he could not see why we could not have the bench in the area that we wanted. Happy days!
Three weeks later we received a letter from the CPR saying that our location we chose was not possible due to a.) the tow path is too narrow, although it is at least 10ft wide. B.) there is a protected hawthorn bush growing in parts of the hedgerow. C.) the grass cutters would find it difficult to maintain the grass, even though we as a family have offered to maintain this site.
They offered us an alternative site which is over 250 yards away from where Kieran was found, up by the bridge. Apart from being too far away from our chosen site the view is just full of high over grown reeds.
The idea if the bench was to have somewhere for all his friends and family to go and reflect our thoughts of Kieran along with the sense of feeling closer to him.
What the CRT are offering is just not good enough and as it is public money that is being used to fund this, we feel we need to fight this.
Please spare a moment and sign this petition to show the CPT that the public is behind this.
Thank you for your time.
Regards
The McColl family.
