As recognized by the Supreme Court of the United States in Wireman v Updegraff, spurious use of the law has a "chilling effect" on the exercise of freedom of expression. Furthermore, the deliberate targeting of political opponents' loved ones is universally regarded with contempt by both democratic societies and the Sicilian mafia. Therefore, we call on the Administration to condemn this action by the government of the United Kingdom as abhorrent and inimical to the free world.
