Pass a Resolution: Corporations are Not People and Money is Not Speech

Pass a Resolution: Corporations are Not People and Money is Not Speech
The Issue
Cleveland City Council will be introducing a resolution later this year calling on the U.S. Congress to amend the United States Constitution to declare that corporations and money do not possess constitutional rights.
Only human beings, not corporations, possess inalienable constitutional rights. As creations of We the People through our government, We the People can and should regulate them. Money is not equivalent to speech, and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech.
Ending corporate "personhood" and money as speech (which includes reversing the Citizens United Supreme Court decision) by a constitutional amendment will increase the ability of people without unlimited money to have their voices heard, needs met, and communities helped.
More than 150 communities have passed resolutions or citizen initiatives calling for this (go to movetoamend.org for details) We, the undersigned, call on Cleveland City Council to pass such a resolution and send it to our federal elected officials.
