Zupreem PLEASE Recall 2 Batches of Food Believed to Cause the Deaths of Many Birds
The Issue
On January 1, 11 birds died in a Michigan Parrot Rescue. Cause of death was Acute Toxicity.
Since then, the Michigan Department of Agriculture opened a case with the FDA to investigate Zupreem Fruit Colored Pellets to identify the toxin responsible.
Several other deaths have been reported. A rescue in Ohio lost 8. A rescue also in Michigan lost 3. A private family in Michigan lost 3. Deaths have been reported in California, Florida, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan from private owners.
We all have at least one of the two batches in common.
Symptoms are:
Wobbly, drunken behavior, Vomiting, Seizures and then Death. If they survive, they typically go back to normal within 48 hours after the food is removed, although not many survive.
Batch Numbers of Zupreem Fruit Flavored Pellets and Products CONTAINING Fruit Flavored Pellets such as Pure Fun Mix, and Smart Selects.

It seems that death spikes occur after opening new bags of these affected batches every 2 months. End of December -January 6, End of February -March 5, and here we are again getting new reports of deaths beginning April 23 to current.
We want Zupreem to step up, own this, help us identify the toxin, initiate a recall and then ensure that if indeed their food is responsible that this never happens again by altering their creating process to address this.
