Dear Deepinder Goyal, CEO, Zomato: 

Zomato claimed that 18% of its orders in 2021-22 were delivered on bicycles. Zomato took credit for it and claimed that this initiative was taken to increase sustainability and reduce carbon footprint.

The company is claiming that bicycle delivery partners are helping them to reduce its emissions. But a media report says otherwise.

According to a report, 'after spending 10.4 hours on the job and making six deliveries, the bicycle delivery partner earned Rs 264 only.'

According to one estimate, Zomato workers travel around 5.43km and earn only INR 47.

The report mentioned that Zomato also charges an onboarding fee of Rs. 1,200 from every delivery partner. In return, it provides them with two T-shirts bearing the Zomato logo and a bag. The delivery partners are also paying large unexplained “settlement adjustment” cuts.

The company is not providing any support to these cyclists to help them adapt to extreme weather events, like heavy rainfall and heatwave. Actually, they are selling raincoats to the delivery partners for Rs. 250.

This must need to be changed. Zomato must stop greenwashing to makeover its brand and grow its business. 

We must hold Zomato accountable!!

If Zomato can spend crores on advertising, it can provide economic and social security to its delivery partners too.

Please sign this petition to demand accountability from Zomato. The company must offer its workers basic social security, including:  

• Pay minimum wage and provide provident fund
• Stop taking "onboarding charges" 
• Stop the "settlement adjustment," if the delivery gets delayed
• Provide free bicycles to their delivery partners
• Give extra incentives to encourage delivery partners as part of your “Climate Conscious Deliveries” program
• Add an extreme climate event payment and provide free basic equipment, like raincoats, water bottles, etc., to delivery partners to deal with heavy rainfall, heat waves, and a winter surge.
