Hello Patriots,
Nearly seven years ago, my cousin, John “Daniel” Grissom, started this petition calling for the impeachment of New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
Today, I am writing on John’s behalf to tell the thousands of people who supported his effort what has happened since then—and to let you know that John has not given up.
John maintains that after becoming politically active and publicly challenging New Mexico’s government, he became the target of political retaliation that ultimately resulted in his arrest, prosecution, conviction, and incarceration.
He was sentenced to five years. Nearly seven years later, he remains incarcerated.
Throughout his case and incarceration, John has experienced serious violations of his constitutional and civil rights, including due-process violations and the denial of rights relating to legal representation. He continues to challenge his conviction and knows that the evidence surrounding his prosecution will ultimately demonstrate that he was wrongfully convicted and that political retaliation played a role in what happened to him.
John remains determined to clear his name.
But something else has happened during these years that I believe everyone who supported his original petition deserves to know.
Prison did not silence him.
It strengthened his determination.
While incarcerated, John enrolled in college and is now approximately halfway through earning a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Development, with a minor in Sociology. After completing that degree, he intends to continue his education in Political Science.
His purpose is simple: John wants to devote his education and the next chapter of his life to understanding government, exposing abuses of power, protecting constitutional rights, and helping prevent other people from experiencing what he believes happened to him.
Seven years ago, John tried to make New Mexico government accountable to its citizens.
Today, despite everything that has happened to him, he still intends to continue that fight.
As John puts it, he wants to help return New Mexico to the “Land of Enchantment” instead of the “Land of Entrapment.”
With New Mexico’s gubernatorial election only days away, John has also asked me to let his supporters know where he personally stands: John supports Republican Gregg Hull for Governor of New Mexico.
Regardless of politics, John is asking the people who originally supported his petition not to forget what happened to him and to continue demanding transparency, constitutional protections, due process, and accountability from the people entrusted with governmental power.
HOW YOU CAN HELP JOHN:
• VOTE FOR GREGG HULL
• Share John’s story and this update with your contacts and on social media.
• If you are an attorney—or know an attorney experienced in New Mexico criminal appeals, habeas corpus, constitutional law, or civil-rights litigation—please contact me.
• Help us bring legitimate public and legal attention to the circumstances surrounding John’s prosecution and continued incarceration.
• If you would like to provide financial assistance for John’s legal efforts, please do not donate through any donation pop-up associated with this old petition. Contact me directly instead.
Most importantly, please do not forget John.
Seven years have passed since he began this campaign. He remains incarcerated, but he has not abandoned the principles that caused him to speak out in the first place.
His legal fight continues.
His education continues.
And his determination to clear his name and expose what he believes happened to him is stronger than ever.
Thank you to everyone who supported John in 2019 and to everyone who continues to stand for transparency, accountability, due process, and constitutional rights in New Mexico.
