YouTube has made their own official response to the backlash. While this may be an attempt to make the situation better, we should know that it's still far from ideal, regardless.
The two main reasons are:
- AI has been proven to often be wrong at times, Even if it doesn't intend to detect Minecraft, Pokemon, or Roblox, it could still detect kid-oriented franchises that people like, which would invade the privacy of our interests that may seem "childish".
- While it is good that IDs won't be required at the first time, if the system gets it wrong and thinks you're under 18, IDs are still required so you can fix the error to know you are over 18. This is an administrative nightmare, and could potentially seek a security breach risk; Once a data breach happens, will you blame YouTube, Google, or the government?
YouTube, regardless of what your team is saying, we know that this is still far from ideal. While AI can be used as a helpful guide in some cases, it can't always replace humans. Let it be the parent's job to keep their kids and teens safe on YouTube and the Internet.
