Young Caribbean descendants to obtain dual citizenship in ECS.

The Issue

In many Eastern Caribbean countries remittances from the Diaspora exceed 30% of the home country’s GDP, this is worrying as the first generation either return to their home country or die overseas. The loss of remittances back into the Caribbean will have a tremendous impact on the economy of the region.

The second and third generation have an enormous potential to give back to the development of the Eastern Caribbean. The ability for young people to work there, study there or invest there is limited tremendously as they are not able to receive dual nationality through their grand-parents.

To prevent the loss of connection and disassociation of the Caribbean we are asking the The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), to present our international petition to the governments of the Eastern Caribbean to extend passport applications to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation. Diaspora are self-identified. This means that events affecting their countries of origin can cause persons of a given ethnic descent living in another country to self-identify themselves as members of their home country’s Diaspora when they hadn’t formerly considered themselves as such.
