KOSA Advances. SCREEN Act Stalls, But the Fight Isn't Over.

The House has advanced the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), while the Senate's SCREEN Act has stalled in committee, but it has not been defeated.

For years, governments around the world have introduced legislation under the promise of "protecting children." Yet too often these proposals expand beyond that goal, placing new burdens on law-abiding adults, small businesses, and online creators.

The United Kingdom's Online Safety Act has demonstrated how age-verification requirements can expand across the internet, raising ongoing concerns about privacy, anonymous speech, and cybersecurity. Similar proposals are now appearing throughout the United States.

Every new identity-verification requirement creates another database to protect, another target for hackers, and another barrier to lawful speech and commerce. Independent creators and small businesses are increasingly expected to shoulder the cost of compliance while ordinary citizens are asked to surrender more personal information simply to participate online.

Children deserve protection. But protecting children should not come at the expense of the constitutional rights, privacy, and security of millions of adults.

The Digital Liberty Act was created because America has no clear framework protecting digital privacy, digital property, anonymity, free expression, and secure online commerce before new regulations are enacted.

Our petition continues to grow through grassroots support, now surpassing 305 supporters. Every signature sends the same message:

Protect children without sacrificing the digital rights of the American people.

If you believe our constitutional liberties deserve the same protection online as they do offline, please continue sharing this petition. Digital rights are civil rights, and once they are surrendered, they are rarely restored.
