Dear Elephant Supporter, Thank you for standing up for elephants and signing our #ivoryfreecanada petition to ban the sale of elephant ivory in Canada. A lot has happened since you signed. March 14 - we sent our letter and the petition (125,000 signatures including yours!) to Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment & Climate Change, Canada. March 18 - the #ivoryfreecanada story was featured in 87 newspapers across Canada, including the National Post and Globe and Mail. Five radio stations and five television stations covered the story too. March 19 - our story made the cover of the Vancouver Metro and we were interviewed on the Evan Solomon Show (radio News Talk 1010). March 20 - we were interviewed live on Breakfast Television about #ivoryfreecanada. Today we have just under 173,000 signatures. However, after 12 weeks we have not yet received an official response from the government. These things can take time, but we need to apply pressure and gain more signatures to show the government that #ivoryfreecanada is what Canadians want! Our goal is to reach 200,000 signatures by the G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec in 3 days. The Group of Seven includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US. They meet annually to discuss the world's most challenging issues. Three of the G7 already have domestic ivory bans in place - France, the UK and the US. This year Canada holds the Presidency which means the world will be watching Canada on June 8 & 9. Please help make #ivoryfreecanada a reality by sharing the petition on your social media one more time. Stuck for words? How about a cut & paste of this message: 71% of Canadians think the sale of ivory in Canada is illegal. Do you? Elephant ivory trade IS still legal in Canada which is why I signed the petition to ban it. Will you too? www.bit.ly/ivoryfreecanada Thank you so much for your valuable support.
