The Issue

Save M&S Swiss Cottage from closing on 15 August 2026

Save M&S Swiss Cottage – Keep M&S in the Heart of Our Community
Marks & Spencer plans to close its Simply Food store at 151 Finchley Road, Swiss Cottage, on 15 August 2026.

This store is far more than a place to shop. For many residents it is part of everyday life. It serves local families, commuters, older people, people with disabilities, nearby workers and visitors who rely on a convenient, accessible food store in the centre of Swiss Cottage.

The store is located next to Swiss Cottage Underground Station and major bus routes, making it an important part of the local high street and transport hub. Losing it would leave another empty unit on Finchley Road and reduce choice for thousands of people who use the area every day.

We understand that businesses must make commercial decisions. However, we believe the community deserves meaningful consultation before such an important local store disappears.

We respectfully ask Marks & Spencer to:

Pause the planned closure while discussions take place with the local community.
Meet with local residents, businesses, Camden Council and our Member of Parliament.
Explain the reasons for the closure.
Explore every possible alternative, including a revised lease, a smaller-format store, or a replacement M&S Food store in Swiss Cottage before the current branch closes.
Keep the community informed about its long-term plans for Swiss Cottage.
This petition is not about resisting change for its own sake. It is about preserving an important local service and ensuring that Swiss Cottage continues to have an accessible M&S presence.

If this store has been part of your daily life, please sign this petition and leave a comment explaining why it matters to you. Personal experiences will help demonstrate the value of this store to our community.

Together, we can show Marks & Spencer that Swiss Cottage deserves to keep an M&S Food store.
