Here’s why we must stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival (June 21, 2022).
To meet the demand in Yulin and beyond, criminals fan out across China capturing strays and stealing pets. Poison is used to expedite capture.
This torturous trade is not legal in China, but the black market has flourished because selling stolen dogs is very profitable.
Middlemen keep abducted dogs in holding pits until there are enough of them to fill a truck. Hundreds of dogs are then forced into cages on flatbed trucks and transported — often for thousands of miles. Trips are typically made in the bitter cold or intense heat and the dogs are never given food or water.
At slaughterhouses in Yulin dogs are bludgeoned, their throats are cut and they are left to die in front of other terrified animals.
We have to end this barbaric festival and trade. With you by our side, we will end this "festival". It's just a matter of time.
