There is a lot of confusion and misinformation around the Yulin festival, and none more so than how it is often labeled as a ten-day festival. This is incorrect.
The Yulin festival itself is a one-day event, and occurs on the day of the summer solstice every year, either on June 20th, 21st, or 22nd.
Even one day is too many!

For example, the summer solstice occurred on June 20th in 2012, 2016, and 2020. In 2021, the summer solstice occurred on June 21st.
We understand where the confusion came from though. It's like July 4th, Independence Day in the USA. While the holiday itself is on July 4th, there is an uptick in the number of fireworks in the days preceding and following the actual holiday.
We would like to share with you a video from our team in Yulin. It has some interviews with two Yulin locals.
