PROBE INTO FUTURE OF LIBRARY TO BE HELD IN REDDITCH.

The long awaited report on the Future Provision of Library Services in Redditch will be examined by the County Council Scrutiny Committee in Redditch on Wednesday 29th June.

This will be the first time since the Redditch Conservatives' decision to demolish the town centre library that the plans will be made public and are expected to be published around 24th June.

Announcing the decision to hold the meeting locally, Cllr Tom Wells (Independent) Chair of the committee said yesterday "we thought we'd do the right thing and go to the people rather than expect them to travel to Worcester". The committee will also decide whether to carry out a fact-finding visit to the current Library in advance of the meeting.

The report, which was due in early May, has now been delayed by another month. There appears to be no explanation for the delay despite questions from Labour's Richard Udall on behalf of Redditch Labour at yesterdays meeting.

The scrutiny meeting will be open to the public who will be allowed to address the councillors from the County Council and Redditch Labour will be preparing a submission to the committee nearer the date.
