Scrap the Wrap is a network of shoppers who are saying 'no' to pointless plastic packaging of fresh produce. The wrapping of fruit and vegetables is both wasteful and environmentally damaging — we need Woolworths and the rest of the big retailers to see sense and Scrap the Wrap! As Australians have become more environmentally conscious, our supermarkets have gone backwards, undermining shoppers who make ethical choices by suffocating organic and local fruit and veggies in unnecessary wrap. We’ve spoken to Woolworth’s National Organics Buyer and also their Ethical Sourcing Manager, and both have assured us that they are committed to scrapping the wrap they use on fruit and vegetables. We want to believe them, so we’re sending them a message. --- Hey Woollies, Show us that you’re fair dinkum about scrapping the wrap by committing to stop the use of ALL polystyrene trays in your wrapping of fruit and veggies by the end of 2015. Put it on your Facebook page and we’ll help you share the great news! --- There are lots of environmentally friendly alternatives being used across the world, but we all know that change happens very slowly in massive corporations. That is… unless shoppers get in touch with these big corporations and tell them we want change and we want it fast! If a few emails and phone calls was all it took for Woolworths to say that they are committed to scrapping the wrap, imagine what they might do if 100 or 1000 people got in touch with Woolworths! Let’s tell Woollies to: End the waste. Stop the plastic. Scrap the wrap. It’s easy!
