“The review released last year found racism, stereotyping and discrimination against Indigenous peoples in the B.C. health-care system are widespread and potentially deadly” (Schmunk, 2021, November 30).
"In the meantime, Indigenous Peoples have continued to be disproportionately harmed and oppressed, and they continue to die as a result of the impacts of racism and the twin public health emergencies" (Schmunk, 2021, November 30).
“Turpel-Lafond said that poor access has meant many Indigenous people are missing screening for preventable or treatable diseases.
For example, First Nations women were about a third less likely to receive a pap smear than non-First Nations women, but had a rate of cervical cancer 1.6 times higher, she said” (Little, 2021, February 4).
