Save live music at Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club - The Bombie
The issue
"The Bombie", presented by Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club hosts music events for people young and old in a picturesque setting overlooking the beach and escarpment.
The Sunday afternoon events happen once or twice a month, finish before sunset and provide several hours of enjoyment to music lovers. Food and alcohol is served however there are no incidents of violence or unruly behaviour, it has more of a family/community vibe.
The events give a platform for up and coming musicians and fund raising for the surf life saving club. Both hosts and attendees are respectful of neighbours.
A local resident has complained that they do not enjoy hearing the music and against the wishes of thousands of people, the local council has told The Bombie to cease operating musical performances immediately.
The Bombie intend to place a development application with the Council so the music may resume, however this process could take months or years.
The aim of this petition is to give weight to that application, and demonstrate that a great number of people love this venue and its music, and that the negative outlook of 1 or 2 people should not decide the fate of the venue.
We believe that the council fails to acknowledge that music is an important part of life, and the small minority who may not appreciate it should be tolerant, and perhaps leave the house for a few hours instead of stopping an event that gives so much joy to so many.
The embattled music industry does not need to lose another venue and the Coalcliff SLSC relies on the funds these events raise.
