This additional burden not only makes travel time-consuming and costly but also limits the ease with which they can maintain cultural and familial connections.

The introduction of a direct flight route from Nuremberg (NUE) to Kutaisi (KUT) would significantly alleviate these challenges. Wizz Air, known for its affordable fares and extensive European network, is the ideal airline to operate this route. Establishing this connection would not only make travel more accessible and convenient for thousands of people but also strengthen cultural and familial ties between Georgia and southern Germany.

In 2020, Wizz Air announced plans to launch a direct connection between Nuremberg (NUE) and Kutaisi (KUT), with service scheduled to begin on July 3rd, 2020, twice per week. The plan was widely reported by aviation media outlets such as airliners.de and Luftfahrtmagazin.de. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted this promising project before it could begin.

Now, years later, there is renewed public demand — from both Bavaria and Georgia — to finally make this route a reality.

A direct connection would also boost tourism and business relations between the two regions. Nuremberg is an economically vibrant city whose industries could greatly benefit from simplified access to Georgia. Conversely, Georgia’s rich history, scenic beauty, and growing tourism sector make it an appealing destination for German travelers, whose numbers would likely increase with a direct route.

Currently, many Georgians living in Germany face long travel times and multiple transfers. A direct flight would enhance comfort, save valuable time, and expand opportunities for business travelers exploring partnerships or investment prospects between Georgia and Germany.

As supporters of this initiative, we strongly urge Wizz Air to reconsider and implement the direct route from Nuremberg to Kutaisi. By doing so, the airline would not only support communities that depend on this connection but also tap into a promising and underserved market. Let’s make travel more seamless and strengthen the ties between southern Germany and Georgia.
