Only 5 days to go before #boycottthehumanzoo hands in our petition to The Barbican. We would like to say a big thank you to all who have signed and please keep sharing. Let's keep push past the 20,000 mark. And show the Barbican that we are NOT WRONG, nor do we MISUNDERSTAND ART. They are claiming this piece is ABOUT racism and therefore NOT racist.
Attempts have been made by The Barbican to draw our campaigners into the spectacle of 'Exhibit B' by inviting #boycottthehumanzoo to a discussion AFTER the proudction exhibition but our objective to stop the exhibition remains clear.
Questions to consider:
1. Could the descendent of a Nazi General show the trauma of the Jewish Peoples in such a way and it be considered, just art?
2. Could we challenge the trauma of child abuse by showing pictures of paedophilia in such a way and it be considered, just art?
3. Whilst this is most certainly a part of the great suffering of African Peoples, why is it always the only part of our history that is told?
4. What tangible positive social outcome is coming out of this piece that will challenge racial injustice and oppression within Britain?
So far the Barbican hasn't answered these questions at all.
Behind the scenes the team prepares for the petition hand in and continues to address the tidal wave of ignorance spewed forth by the beneficiaries of 'Exhibit B' and their supporters. In what has become a case of life imitating art, Brett Bailey has yet to personally address the petition, preferring to hide behind the voices of his 'performers' who are happy to dismiss the concerns of campaigners, academics and of course, all 18,000 and odd of you, on his behalf.
Commitment to the campaign is stronger than ever and morale is kept buoyant by the growing petition and endless support of some fantastic organizations PSC, Unite, TUC, UpRising to mention just a few there and more!!! The outdated attitudes of the campaign's detractors only serve to strengthen our resolve and remind us of the importance of #boycottthehumanzoo. Some might question why are African People even preforming in this piece very good video to watch to know why can be found here, this is REAL CHANGE:
