EHV owners are still a tiny but growing minority of automobile owners, but soon this will change. Many countries around the world including China (as it recently announced) will be banning fossil fuel vehicles in the not-too-distant future. Sign my petition to oppose that the WI state budget penalize EHV owners to fund roads! But hey, I'm not all about complaining -- I also propose an existing solution: Why not go ahead and adopt a more equitable transportation fee based on mileage driven? (This has been piloted in CA and OR -- see links below) I would not have a problem helping finance the roadways in proportion to my use of them, would you? (Especially if there are exemptions or caps for people who must travel far to get to/from work). A mileage-based fee will encourage folks to drive less, use public transportation more, and generate more revenue as fossil-fuel based vehicles are phased out.
