Dear supporters,

As promised, I replied to Wimbledon tennis club on September 12th.

I asked them several things :

  • when is the post-championships review happening (if it hasn't happened already)?
  • what is the exact nature of the partnership between them and Jaguar Land Rover?
  • can I have a direct email address for someone instead of having to use their website to send emails?

I also made a point about the fact that SUVs are polluting, dangerous and drive climate change.

I've just received a reply from Wimbledon tennis club that is less than satisfactory.

In brief, they didn't reply precisely to my questions - no update on the so-called post-championships review.

Also, they implicitly defended their partnership with Jaguar Land Rover by letting me know that they 'are committed to reducing the emissions of (their) fleet year on year and hope to move towards a fully electric fleet in the coming years'.

I am not any more thrilled about the prospect of electric SUVs than I am about the fossil fuel powered ones. First, they will still be as big, and  therefore as dangerous. Second, electric vehicles are polluting : the wear and tear of their tyres is a source of particulate matter (see the warning given by Chris Whitty to MPs here).

In short, I think we are going to need to pump up the volume a bit in order for Wimbledon tennis club to take this matter seriously.

I have a couple of ideas about how to do this but I'd like to hear your suggestions.

Thank you for your support.

Best,

Amandine
