Extend Compassion to All Animals

Dear Board members of Wilmington Fur Ball,
As a board member of an organization that raises money to save animals, you know how important being a great ambassador for animals is! Your contribution to improving the welfare of dogs, cats, and other animals is admirable.
We are animal advocates who would love to support your organization, but we can't, because your events fund the killing of animals.
We would like to introduce you to Animal Place's Food for Thought program, which fits well with animal groups interested in being role models for their community. Food for Thought is a national effort that encourages nonprofit boards to adopt an animal-friendly menu policy for all sponsored events. The initiative is spirited by Animal Place, a non-profit sanctuary located in Grass Valley, California. The sanctuary was founded in 1989 as an avenue to extend compassion to all life—with an emphasis on farmed animals.
Many dog and cat shelters rescue farmed animals. Rabbits, chickens, goats, pigs, cows, llamas, horses, and alpacas all may enter local shelters. And, as with dogs and cats, reasonable efforts are made to find permanent homes for these perhaps more atypical rescues. The Food for Thought program hopes to help make the connection between the chickens saved from hoarding cases and injured calves rescued from the side of the road—and serving chicken and beef at a shelter-sponsored meal.
Animal rescue organizations save and advocate for animals and, because of that, Food for Thought asks for more consistency by not serving animals at your events.
If this animal friendly menu policy is something your organization might be willing to consider, please visit this website for more information: foodforthoughtcampaign.org. We hope you will also take the time to watch this viideo, which features Jackson Galaxy of the hit Animal Planet show, “My Cat from Hell,” as well as several of his peers in animal welfare sharing their experiences in adopting animal friendly menu policies:
