Eight platypuses found dead in a yabbie net in Victoria

A few days ago an horrific story hit the news that broke the hearts of animal lovers across the country. On Sunday morning, teenagers discovered the bodies of eight dead platypuses in a net in the Werribee River, Victoria, while they were kayaking.

The net is similar to those that have been banned from use in public waterways in Victoria since last July, indicating that a ban on their use alone may not be enough to stop the devastating effect that these traps are having on native wildlife. While some are calling for tougher enforcement of the ban and stricter penalties, the tragic deaths of the eight platypuses found on Sunday demonstrates that a total ban of the SALE AND POSSESSION of these death traps is now appropriate and necessary.
